Union Wins 3A GSHL Title After 26-21 Win Over Camas
The Union Titans completed an undefeated regular season and win the 3A GSHL title following their 26-21 home win over the Camas Papermakers Friday night at McKenzie Stadium.
Union took a 20-7 halftime lead after touch downs from Zak Browning and Mitch Saylor along with two Jed Barnett field goals. Camas had tied the score at 7-7 in the first when Guy Varsek caught pass from Logan Grindy after it was almost intercepted by a Union defender.
Camas made it close at the end, but did not have enough to claim the title, which would have been theirs with a win.
Union improves to 9-0 and 5-0 in league with the win, and will host Rainier Beach (4-5) this weekend in the Preliminary Round of the WIAA state play-offs.
Camas, who would have claimed the #1 seed with a win, falls to 6-3 and 3-2 in league with the loss and gets the #3 seed and will travel to Kennedy (8-1) this weekend in the Preliminary Round of the WIAA state play-offs.

The Evergreen Plainsmen were one win away from a share of the 4A GSHL title and a Monday tie-breaker date with Skyview and Heritage. Mountain View, was not going to let this happen.

Union Tops Another GSHL Power Rankings, Camas In – Mark Morris Out
Top ranked Union along with Skyview, Camas, and Columbia River all rolled Friday night. While Heritage and Evergreen struggled to win. Hockinson looked as if it was going to blow out Mark Morris at home, up 27-0 in the third, then the Monarchs stormed back to pull within 3 at 27-24 before the Hawks finally ran out the clock. As we head in to the final week before the play-offs start, here is our top-5.
GSHL Power Rankings
On the radar: Columbia River (5-3) Hockinson (6-2) Mark Morris (6-2)
1. Union made quick work of the Prairie Falcons Friday night, jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead. Following the 35-7 victory, the Titans now host Camas (6-2 3-1) Friday night at 8pm with the 3A GSHL league title on the line. A Titans win, and Union will win it’s first football title. Union is again #4 in the Seattle Times poll, and will likely remain #4 in the AP as well the Titans remain our #1.
2. Heritage’s high flying offence struggled against a tough Mountain View defense in the Timberwolves 14-9 win. The win was Heritages forth in-a-row following a 1-3 start. Heritage will play at Kiggins Bowl versus the Skyview Storm, Thursday night with the 4A GSHL championship on the line. A Timberwolves win, and they are 4A champs for the first time since 2000.
3. Skyview moves up 1 spot following there 59-14 win at Kelso (3-5 0-4). With the emergence of RB Duke Kelly in the last game and a half, Skyview now has a way to keep Ashton Clark and Garrett Grayson off the filed Thursday. Skyview jumps over Evergreen this week even though both teams did win, because the Plainsmen just did not look sharp Thursday. Skyview was able to focus and handle there business when playing a Kelso team that is struggling as of late. Skyview can claim a share of the 4A GSHL championship with a home win over Heritage Thursday. If Mountain View also beats Evergreen, the Storm will finish as the #1 seed as well.
4. Unlike Skyview, the Evergreen Plainsmen looked anything but sharp Thursday night. Credit must be given to Battle Ground, as the Tigers pulled out all the stops in efforts to get their first league win. Evergreen looked like a play-off team in spurts, but just could not put consecutive series together against the Tigers. Evergreen still can win the 4A GSHL championship with a win over Mountain View, and a Skyview win over Heritage.
5. Camas jumps back into the top-5 following their 56-20 win at Fort Vancouver (2-6 1-3) Friday night. The Papermakers have lost 2 games by a total of 4 points. A Camas win over Union on Friday will cause a three way tie for the 3A GSHL title. A Papermakers win, along with a Columbia River loss Thursday night and Camas will be the #1 seed in 3A.
