What was your most memorable moment playing high school football?

Greg – Beating Battle Ground back to back years my Jr. and Sr. seasons, if I remember right I don’t think prairie had won for around 9 years.

Did you have any game day/game time rituals in high school? If so, what were they?

Greg – Listen to Cowboys from Hell by Pantera before leaving the locker room.

Who influenced you the most as a High School football player?

Greg – My family was a big influence. They always pushed me to be the best I could be.

Explain your recruiting process. How many schools did you visit? Did anything interesting happen during this process?

When I went to Puget Sound I got the feeling that I was really wanted there.

Greg – I visited four schools; each was about the same. I met and talked with the coaches, toured the campus and workout facilities and had lunch with some of the players. When I went to Puget Sound I got the feeling that I was really wanted there.

Do you have an iPhone?

Greg – Nope

What would you tell young kids entering high school is the most important thing (besides school) they need to do to become an elite level player?

Greg – Be coachable, a team first player, and a hard worker.

What was your most embarrassing moment playing high school football?

Greg – I was a middle wedge player on kick return. We were playing against Heritage and there was a squib kick that bounced right to me. I picked it up and ran straight ahead. I only had the kicker to beat, I tried to switch hands to put the ball in my sideline arm and while switching hands I fumbled the ball without getting touched. It was pretty bad.

What was your most memorable moment (so far) playing college football?

Greg – Coming into long snap my sophomore year against Claremont in a tie ball game. It was the first time getting playing time in a pressure situation. We went on to win the game.

Xbox, PS3, or Wii? What is your favorite game?

Greg – NCAA 09 and Halo 3.

Who is your favorite musical artist?

Greg – Probably Allan Jackson, I don’t really have a favorite though.

Do you have any game day/game time rituals in college? If so, what were they?

Greg – Don’t really have any. I listen to rock music in the locker room.

Who influenced you the most as a college football player?

Greg – My family, I really looked up to all of the older guys on the team when I came into the program.

Explain a typical week during football season with class, practice, game, other time.

Greg – I try to have all of my classes scheduled in the morning so I don’t miss any practice time in the afternoon. I took a lot of math and science classes so most of them are 4 days a week plus labs so I’ve never had a day without classes during the week. We would have meetings around 3:30 and about a 2 hour practice afterwards. I have a 10 hour/week work study job that I would work a couple hours a day before meetings. Also I would have three lifting days a week during the season. I’d usually try to lift in the morning before classes. After practice grab some dinner and head to the library or science building work on homework until about midnight or later. I really don’t have too much time to watch tv or play video games during the week.

How many different positions did you play from youth football through the end of your HS career? If you could have chosen another position other than D-Line, what would have it been?

If I could go back and do it all over again I would have wanted to give QB a shot.

Greg – 8: Center, guard, tackle, tight end, inside and outside line backer, D end, and long snapper. I would have liked to play ILB in college, that’s what I played in high school and had a lot of fun. If I could go back and do it all over again I would have wanted to give QB a shot.

What is your favorite TV show now?

Greg – Sports Center, NCIS

Do you prefer Madden or NCAA? Why?

Greg – NCAA for the Dynasty mode.

How much college football do you get to watch during the season? (not counting film sessions)

Greg – Usually don’t get to watch a full game but I’ll watch Friday and Saturday night games

Compare your relationship with your high school teammates to that of your college teammates. Assuming that you grew up with most of your high school teammates for years prior to playing together with them, and your college teammates came from all over the country.

Greg – I feel that I know all of my college teammates better than my high school teammates as a whole. In addition to just practicing together I see a lot of my teammates seven days a week. I’m still really close to some of the guys I grew up playing with but in college I became really close with a few guys because I’ve lived with a couple of my teammates for a few years.

How often do you make it back to Vancouver?

Greg – About once a month or so.

What was your most embarrassing moment playing college football?

Greg – I can’t really think of one.

What was your favorite TV show in high school?

Greg – Sports Center, Family Guy.

As we are now less than one month away from the start of GSHL football practice (August 19th) it seems like a good time to release the full 2009 season schedule for all 18 GSHL football teams.

EA Sports has released its new version of NCAA College Football – NCAA 2010. There is a new feature where you can go online and create your own team. So we went ahead and created all 18 GSHL football teams for you.

You simply hook up your PS3 or X-Box to the Internet and then you can download your school and play with them.

Want a Camas v Union rematch? How about Evergreen v Mountain View or Skyview v Columbia River, or Prairie v Battle Ground or Mark Morris v RA Long or Hudson’s Bay v Fort Vancouver. Well you can do it. You can even renew the Camas v Washougal rivalry. I hear there is a Facebook Group that is asking for the game to be back on, well here you go guys.

We took all efforts to make the uniforms as accurate as possible. It also allows you to have a 2nd helmet as well has 2 home and 2 away jerseys. We took some liberty to make a cool alt jersey for your GSHL school.

As spring practice comes to a close, what are your initial thoughts about your team?

Coach Perkins – We have come a long way and have improved a lot from last year. Our kids were very focused and hungry.

Other GSHL 2009 Spring Practice Breakdown’s

Sometimes the final score of a ballgame is not indicative of how the game was played. Tonight’s Shriner’s Freedom Bowl Classic is one example of just that.

A 6-3 game at the half got away from the West in the second half. A 45 yard punt return by Heritage’s Ashton Clark and a 32 yard field goal from Dan Pershall of La Center was all the offense in the first half of play. Jon Eagle’s East team took a while to get clicking while Cal Szueber’s West double wing moved the ball fairly well, just could not find the end zone.

The second half was a different story. The East spread offense found its way and scored two touchdowns in each of the last 2 quarters while their defense shout out the West.

Mountain View QB Cameron Pape there 4 touchdowns in the second half. Two to Camas WR Brent Alexander, one to Evergreen RB James Monk, one to Union WR Zac Sparks as well as a two point conversion to Union TE Derek Adams.

As spring practice comes to a close, what are your initial thoughts about your team?

Coach Bertram – As spring ended, I feel our team has a good core of seniors with a solid junior class. Experience should be one of our strengths this year.

Coach Bertram – Our goal is to make the state playoffs, RAL has never been.
