It’s finally here! The first day of fall high school football practice for all 5 4A Greater St. Helens League teams.

What better way to kick things off then roll out the preseason GSHLFootball.com 4A All-League team.

Offensice Player of the Year, Union Jr Running Back Brandon Brody-Heim is looking to follow in the foot steps of Blake Russell and Nathaniel Penaranda and lead the Titans to their 3rd consecutive GSHL Championship. This is Union’s first season playing in the 4A and the 2 time defending 4A Champion Skyview Storm won’t easily give up their crown. Defensive Player of the Year Skyview Sr. Defensive Back Ellis Henderson will lead a very talented Storm team not only in defense, but also on offense and special teams. Henderson is by far the most electric player in the GSHL and his Storm have their eyes set on the Tacoma Dome this fall.

Skyview led all schools with 10 selections on the preseason 4A GSHLFootball.com All-League team. Union was next with 6 players, Heritage had 5 players, Evergreen had 4 players, and Battle Ground had 1 player on the team.

How come Cody Fields isnt on 1st team OL? He was last year.

  2. Bryan Levesque on August 18th, 2010 3:47 am

We didn’t have any guys start 2 ways. Figured there was enough talent to have 22 starters.

  3. High School Football Fan I on August 18th, 2010 8:04 am

A lot of talented kids left off this list Bryan. I think we will see it change quite a bit after the league schedule is complete.

all opinions just love it but there is one that catches my eye. this kody watts kid never started a official game in his career until this up coming fall but why up he is up there i do not know because he has only started spring ball and camp. well we will see how good your predictions are. their is some good hidden talent you haven’t put down as preseason but will be 1st team or second team all league

[...] GSHLFootball.com has their preseason all-star picks posted.  They also have separate 2A, 3A, and 4A teams. The All Level All-Star team is the top players from all 3 levels of GSHL football, 4A, 3A [...]

Even more interesting is BB-H as the pre-season pick for offensive player of the year over Henderson, Parker Henry & Weezianna Lightning. (this kid is gonna cause some problems for defenses) BB-H hasn’t started a game either, yet he is projected to carry on where Nate P. left off, very interesting!

I believe if EH has another productive year as he did last season, he will be the GSHL player of the year by a wide margin.
There will be many deserving players to make the season ending picks by area coaches that are not on this list as well. Remember, these were Bryan’s picks based upon how teams finished last season. All could not be based upon play as a few did not start for their teams last season.

  8. Bryan Levesque on August 18th, 2010 12:05 pm

A lot of kids are 2 way starters and might be the best at both position they play. The preseason all-league teams don’t have kids on both O and D. Thus T.J. Boatright and Ellis Henderson are on D and not on O even though they probably are also deserving of being on both. Just how we do things. Same goes for Cody Fields, he is on the DL, so we put another kid on the OL.

Bryan, Chase will be a Senior and Gabe will be a Junior. Just fyi…

  10. InMyOpinion on August 18th, 2010 8:42 pm

I dont see how you can pick some of these players when most havent started? How do you choose a all-league QB when every school has a new one? wouldnt you need to see them all play? I’m not trying to jump on your back Bryan, some of these picks just seem odd to me, but then again, its not my site. Haha.

  11. Gridiron Grandpa on August 18th, 2010 8:57 pm

InMyOpinion, I absolutley agree with you. College pre-season teams are based on a lot more info to make these types of teams.

Bryan, I think you just crushed half the kids who will be first time high school starters and pissed off the other half and are going to write in after the All League teams were picked and tell you you don’t know jack!

I know you have to go with the “Winning Programs” for you list, but are you truley looking for the best kids for this team, or just asuming the best teams must have all of the best players??

  12. chrish on August 18th, 2010 10:18 pm

Inmyopinion and gridiron grandpa, I agree with you that it is unfair to returning staters to select players that have never started, and I agree that a lot of these players may not actually be as good as expected. The point is that this is simply a prediction from someone who has watched a lot of film and live pratcices from most of these players. I don’t see anything wrong with making a list of preseason favorites. It shouldn’t be used as a rule of thumb for judging players throughout the year, but as something for the fans to use to get to know some of the likely best players in the upcoming season. personnaly I’m a skyview alum, and I know a lot about our squad, but I dont know a lot about many of the players on other teams so it is nice to have something to give me an idea of the talent around the league.

  13. Skyguy on August 19th, 2010 1:30 am

Chrish- I tottaly agree, Bryan is by far a better football expert than anyone who comments on this blog. He is making predictions based on what he saw last year, this spring, and this summer. It is a good list to mark the players to watch this year and it is a very football educated list at that. He has had alot of experience doing this and probably knows better than anyone else the talnt in the GSHL.

  14. egreen on August 19th, 2010 3:30 am

Skyguy – Egreen went 100% last year on one week of picks.. Did Bryan? Bryan is a stud lets not take that away from him, but one thing that never shows up on paper is Heart.

I think Evergreen went largely unnoticed in the predictions above.

Predictions aside, this year will be a fun year to watch football in the area. I look forward to more Evergreen players on this list throughout the year..

  15. Skyguy on August 19th, 2010 11:10 am

I will try to not sound like a jerk but, people get lucky sometimes. Mabye Egreen did happen to nail all the week 1 picks, but is he consistent? Plus if he is a better expert on football than Bryan is, why isnt he running this website? Bryan is because he is more experienced and more insightful than any person that blogs on here trying to sound like they’re an expert. And as to your comment on you not being able to wait for more evergreen players to be on the list, we will see.

  16. Outsider on August 19th, 2010 1:09 pm

Its his website, he can pick whoever he wants based on whatever criteria he wants. If you guys wanna take the time to go to all the practices, camps, games etc. etc. Then go ahead and make your own preseason all-league team. If not then just shut up and we’ll see how the season actually turns out for these boys and their schools. Once that happens then you can start talking about who deserves what

  17. Touchet on August 19th, 2010 4:13 pm

Well said Outsider! Bryan you rule, for supplying us with the opporunity to debate HS football on this forum. THank You.

  20. egreen on August 20th, 2010 12:32 am

Skyguy- I never said I was an expert. Bryan makes his picks off what he thinks just like everyone else. I am sure he has some sort of system in factoring who he thinks is going to win, just like you and I. I am not running this web site because its Bryan’s.

Seeing kids that are not on this list use there Hearts on the field and move themselves up to this list is something awesome to watch. Because I am an Evergreen supporter of course I would love to see more of my teams players on this list and hope they do make it. Just like you and every other person.

This is the forum to discuss and throw out our two cents, otherwise there would not be a place to make comments. If anyone is upset at what I said, please re-read what I have said. Easy people, easy!

    GO BIG GREEN!

  21. Skyguy on August 20th, 2010 2:30 am

Egreen- I was meerly refering to your comment on August 19th, the very 1st sentence or 2. To me it sounded like either you or another Egreen was trying to down play Bryans ability to predict outcomes in high school football. This is what I am talking about “Egreen went 100% last year on one week of picks.. Did Bryan?”. It just sounds to me like you or he or she was trying to devalue Bryan and his predictions. Thats what my whole rebutle was focused towards. Plus it sounded like you where assuming that more Plainsmen should be on the list versus other players that where put on and that they are more deserving. Who knows they might be, thats why I said “We’ll see”.

  22. egreen on August 20th, 2010 5:19 am

Ah, simple misunderstanding. My next comment after your quote and what I have said above still basically says that Bryan is the man. But paper and heart have to be considered.

I am tooting my own horn about going 100% last year during one week. Anyone who says that they are an expert is just another weatherman. We all don’t have a crystal ball to look into the future, so its still a guess. Most of the time its a logical one and others are not. The problem is I still wont vote against Evergreen so even it they were to play against an NFL team. I would still root my boys on, as long as they where not playing the Fins.. :)

Face it without Bryan’s incite none of us down here would know anything about the rest of the players in the state.

As to my comments about his list, I believe that the some of the people named above will be replaced by others throughout the season. Heck, you said it best, “we will see”.
