Children will play with their classmates and neighborhood friends to create a feeder program for the High Schools that they will attend. Former Mountain View Thunder Michael Roos Named To NFL All-Fundamentals Team
Former Mountain View Thunder football player Michael Roos was named to the NFL All-Fundamentals Team this week.
Roos who graduated from Mountain View in 2000, went on to play college football at Eastern Washington where he won several first-team All-American honors as an offensive lineman before getting drafted by Tennessee in the 2005 NFL Draft.
USA Football and the NFLPA selected 26 players for the All-Fundamentals Team for representing the fundamentals of the National Football League.
Along with a nice shiny helmet, Roos was awarded a $1,500 donation from USA Football to give to the high school of his choice. Roos has chosen to give the money to his alma mater, Mountain View.
“The Thunder family is very proud of Michael Roos,” said Adam Mathieson Mountain View’s Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach. ”Not only for his work on the football field, but for many of his philanthropic efforts off of the field.”
Earler this year, Roos made a $500,000 donation to replace the turf at Eastern Washington University with the current red SprinTurf. The field is now named in his honor, Roos Field.
Mathieson went on to say, “Michael is a tremendous athlete, as this award clearly demonstrates, but to the Thunder faithful that coached him he is an even better human being. As someone that has not personally met Michael (other than via a few text messages), we are very appreciative of the grant that accompanies the award and are truly humbled that he would think of the Thunder.”

Poll Question: As A Fan Of High School Football, What Offense Do You Enjoy Watching The Most?
One of the things that makes high school football unique, is the varying offensive philosophys among the different schools.
Now, some schools are known as “system” schools, running the same offense year in and year out. No matter the talent of their players, they mold them into one particular system.
Other schools will adjust their offense based on the skill set of the kids they have at that time.
Now, we all know that fans want to see their team win. Weather they are a Bellevue fan watching the Wing-T, or a Skyline fan watching the spread, they both are excited to see their team put up loads of points.
In our scenario, assume your team will win with any offense they run.
So we ask…

Fort Vancouver Head Football Coach Cal Szueber Won’t Be Back In 2011

Cal Szueber went 10-27 in 4 seasons as the head coach at Fort Vancouver High School. Szueber was the 2007 3A GSHL Coach of the Year.
After just 4 seasons as the Trappers head football coach, Fort Vancouver High School has decided to part ways with Cal Szueber.
Szueber said that Fort Vancouver is “going in a different direction.”
Fort Vancouver went 10-27 with Szueber at the helm, including 3 straight 2-7 seasons.
In 2007, Szueber’s first season at Fort, the Trappers went 4-6 and finished 3rd in the 3A GSHL. The 4 wins equaled the most wins any Trapper team had had since 1998 when Fort Vancouver went 7-3, losing in the preliminary round.
Prior to arriving at Fort Vancouver, Szueber went 65-43 in his first 12 years as a head coach at 4 different schools, all of which were in Oregon.
Szueber went 20-7 from 1995-1997 at Oakland, winning 1 league championship and making the playoffs twice. Next Szueber coached at North Doughal from 1998-2000 going 18-9, winning a league championship. From 2001-2003 Szueber went 16-11 at Tillamook, qualifying for the playoffs twice. Finally Szueber went 11-16 at Roosevelt from 2004-2006, making the playoffs twice.
In 9 of his first 12 years as a head coach Szueber had a winning record and he took all 4 teams he coached to the playoffs at least once.
“I am happy the Fort program is much more competitive now than when we arrived in 2007,” said Szueber. “This year we lost 4 games by 8 points or less, and winning 3 of those would have put us in the playoffs. We didn’t have numbers to compete with the top programs, but our kids showed a lot of heart and determination. I will miss working with them! Unfortunately, this was the only school I have been at that we couldn’t get the program turned around in the win column.”
Winning at Fort Vancouver has not come easy for anyone who has led the Trappers for quite some time.
Prior to Szueber’s run at Fort, Greg Stoller led the Trappers from 2005-2006 going just 3-15 in 2 seasons.
Current Union assistant coach Gary McGarvie was the Fort Vancouver head coach from 2001-2004. McGarvie’s Trappers went 13-25 in 4 seasons, but did manage a pair of 4 win seasons and qualified for the preliminary round of the playoffs twice, despite never having a winning season.
Prior to that, legendary Fort Vancouver football coach Gary Boggs struggled to find success in his final years. Boggs led the Trappers from 1967-2000. In Boggs final 11 seasons (1990-2000) the Trappers went 33-64 with just 2 winning seasons (5-4 in 1996 and 7-3 in 1998), qualifying for the preliminary round in 1998.
Despite that fact that Fort Vancouver started playing football in 1893, then the Vancouver High School, the Trappers have yet to win a WIAA State playoff game.
Since 1973 when the WIAA went to a playoff format to determine the states football champions, Fort Vancouver has only qualified for the playoffs 4 times. The Trappers lost first round games in 1973, 1978, 1979 and 1983 and have not been back to the playoffs now for the past 27 seasons.
Fort Vancouver athletic director John Griffin declined to comment on the situation.
