Newton, along with Oregon RB LaMichael James, Stanford QB Andrew Luck and Boise State (Porsser WA High School) QB Kellen Moore are the 4 finalists for the 2010 Heisman Trophy.
So we ask…

Zak Browning, Odin Coe And Ellis Henderson Are All Voted As First Team All-State Defenders By The Tacoma News Tribune
Doug Pacey and the Tacoma News Tribune newspaper have announced their 2010 TACOMA NEWS TRIBUNE ALL-CLASSIFICATION ALL-STATE FOOTBALL TEAM.
There are 3 Greater St. Helens League football players who were voted to the all-state team.

Zak Browning, Senior Linebacker Union (#21)
Union Senior Zak Browning was voted as a first team Linebacker.
“It’s a real honor to be recognized at such a high level,” said Zak. “This is a goal I’d set for myself at the beginning of the year and it feels great to have accomplished it.”
Browning was the leader of a Titans defense that allowed an average of 13.7 points per game (as a team), including a stretch of 7 games in which the Titans defense only allowed 17 points and had 3 shutouts.
Zak had 46 assisted tackles, 20 unassisted 7 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 knock downs, 1 interception for td, 5.5 sacks, 12 hurries on the season for Union.
“I’ve worked hard both during the season and the off season pushing myself in the weight room and on the field,” Zak continued. “I have to give a lot of credit to my coaches and my fellow defensive players. A lot of the plays I made were because of good coverage by the defensive backs or because of the d-line and other linebackers plugging the wholes forcing them outside for me to made a play. Again it’s a real honor to receive this recognition.”
Browning was also voted by the 4A GSHL Coaches as the 4A GSHL Offensive Player of the Year as well as both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year on the GSHLFootball.com 4A All-League team. Zak was also voted as the 2010 GSHLFootball.com All Level All-Star team Offensive Player of the Year. (full team will be released next week.)

Odin Coe, Senior Defensive Lineman Camas (#57)
Camas Senior Odin Coe was voted as a first team Defensive Lineman
“It is truly an honor to be on this team,” said Odin “I have worked very hard these past few years and this is another step in the process.”
Odin was the leader of a Papermakers defense that set the school record for fewest points allowed per game at 11.3. This years Camas team was also the first team in school history to win a state playoff game, and that was in large part to Coe’s 28 tackles in their first round 20-13 win over #4 Juanita.
“I couldn’t have made it this far without my strength coach Mark Riehl and support from my friends and family,” Odin continued. “Danny, Tani and Max are all great players,so it is great to be in their company. I have had the privilege to play next to Tani at some of the spring camps.”
Coe was also voted by the 3A GSHL Coaches as a first team Defensive Lineman as well as the Defensive Player of the Year on the GSHLFootball.com 3A All-League team. Odin was also voted as the 2010 GSHLFootball.com All Level All-Star team Defensive Player of the Year. (full team will be released next week.)
“It is great to see Ellis on this team also representing GSHL. I know he has worked hard and this really shows. He is a great player and deserves it,” said Coe.

Ellis Henderson, Senior Defensive Back Skyview (#7)
Skyview Senior Ellis Henderson was voted as a first team Defensive Back
“I feel honored to be considered one of the top players in the state of Washington,” said Ellis. I am glad to see Zak on there as well. It seems to me that the GSHL is getting recognized more and more throughout the state and that is bound to only bring more great things to the Vancouver area and hopefully gives even more kids an opportunity to get seen.”
Ellis helped lead the Skyview Storm to their 3rd consecutive 4A Greater St. Helens League football title in 2010. Henderson is the highest recruited player out of Southwest Washington this year, having already received offers from Air Force, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana State, New Mexico State and Washington State . Ellis is in Hawaii this weekend on his official visit. Ellis is listed as the #11 overall prospect in the state of Washington by WashingtonPreps.com.
“It’s also nice to see the off season work that I’ve put in be noticed, but I know that I need to start working 100 times harder because by no means have I arrived yet,” Ellis continued. “There is still a lot more work to be done. And I can’t wait.”
Ellis was also voted by the 4A GSHL Coaches as the 4A GSHL Defensive Player of the Year as well as 1st team DB on the GSHLFootball.com 4A All-League team. Ellis was also voted as a 1st team DB on the 2010 GSHLFootball.com All Level All-Star team. (full team will be released next week.)

Mark Morris RB Jeremy Wolf – Week 13 Player Of The Week

Jeremy Wolf had 9 rushes for 48 yards and 1 rushing touchdown, 9 catches for 13 more yards as well as 10 tackles on on defense and a 78 yard interception ran back for a touchdown in the Monarchs 42-18 loss to Archbishop Murphy.
GSHL Football will be awarding a Player Of The Week every week this season.
To be considered for Player Of The Week an athlete must have an outstanding performance in his teams WIN (or be the only team that advances to the Semifinals) over a formidable opponent.
Jeremy Wolf, RB Mark Morris was selected as the Player of the Week for Week 13.
Not many of us would have picked Mark Morris to advance to the WIAA 2A Semifinals after their 6-3 season despite winning the 2A GSHL for a 2nd season in a row. But that is just what the scrappy bunch of Monarchs did. On Saturday at the Tacoma Dome, Mark Morris once again surprised many when they jumped out to a 12-0 lead on #1 Archbishop Murphy and only trailed 14-12 at halftime. Although the Monarchs ended up losing the game 42-18, their effort is commendable. Leading that charge was Senior Jeremy Wolf. Wolf helped Mark Morris go on a 80 yard scoring drive to open the game, then on Archbishop Murphy’s opening drive, Wolf picked off the Wildcat QB, and ran it back 78 yards for a touchdown and the 12-0 lead. Finally with the game out of hand, Wolf and his Monarchs punched in 1 final score as the clock expired, showing that despite the loss they never gave up fighting.
A special thanks to John Hamlik, as well as his wife and crew for their awesome pictures of Jeremy Wolf and all of the Monarch players from the Archbishop Murphy game. Please head over to hamlik.com for more great game shots!
