Lakes Lancer Junior QB #7 Cedric Dozier has passed for 1151 yards and 13 TD's and also has rushed for 982 more yards and has 15 rushing TD's to lead Lakes to a 10-1 record.

Friday evening, 7:30 pm at at Doc Harris Stadium, the 2010 3A Greater St. Helens League champion #3 Camas Papermakers (11-0) will host the 3A South Puget Sound League Champion #6 Lakes Lancers (10-1) in the Quarterfinals of the WIAA state football playoffs.

So, just who are the Lakes Lancers?

Lakes High School is located in Lakewood, WA on the west side of I-5 just north of Fort Lewis.

The Lakes Lancers are coached by Dave Miller and finished as 3A South Puget Sound League Champions. Lakes finished league play at 5-0 and are currently 10-1 overall. The Lancers last lost 28-21 to #2 Capital in week 3 at Capital. Lakes has won 8 games in a row since the loss to the Cougars.

Lakes qualified for the state playoffs with a 42-14 home win over Everett and then defeated Meadowdale 49-21 in the first round of state.

The Lancers went away from their traditional 2 back, double tight offense this season in favor of the shotgun spread.

Gone is the 1-2 punch of Teddy Cotton and Willis Wilson at RB, and gone is WR Jamaal Kearse, the latter 2 now playing for the University of Washington.

Junior QB Cedric Dozier (5’11″ 175) leads the new look Lakes offense which averages over 40 points per game. Dozier is a dual-threat QB who has passed for 1,151 yards and rushed for another 982. That’s 2,133 total yards for the Junior. Dozier has also accounted for 28 touchdowns this season, passing for 13 and running for 15 more.

“He’s got a lot of experience now… The game is slowing down for him and he’s got a lot of weapons to get the ball to.” Lakes head coach Dave Miller on QB Cedric Dozier*

Dozier’s passing numbers are a bit inflated however. Most of his passing yards and touchdowns came just 2 games vs pretty bad football teams. He was 15/19 for 261 yards and 4 touchdowns vs a 1-8 Evergreen team, and 12/15 for 209 yards and 3 more touchdowns vs a 1-9 Decatur team. Lakes won those 2 games by a combined score of 103-15. That leaves Dozier with 681 yards passing and just 6 touchdowns in Lakes other 8 games, or an average of 85 passing yards per game. In 4 games Dozier has passed for less than 30 yards and 0 touchdowns.

In Lakes games vs Wilson, Peninsual, Enumclaw and Everett, Dozier threw for 28,23,15 and 15 yards. However, he ran all over the place in those same games rushing for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns vs Wilson, 137 yards and 3 touchdowns vs Peninsual, 212 yards and a touchdown vs Enumclaw and another 212 and 1 touchdown 2 weeks ago vs Everett, all Lakes wins.

Dozier has spread his passing yards around this season as 5 different Lancer WR’s have at least 100+ receiving yards, and none more than 251. Senior WR Taylor McAllister (6’3″ 180) leads the team with 251 receiving yards on 11 catches and has 3 touchdowns. Senior Ashten Agor (5’8″ 155) has 175 and 2 touchdowns on 14 catches, Sophomore WR Marquim Russell (5’11″ 175) is next with 172 yards and 3 touchdowns on 9 catches. Sophomore WR Sammie Long (6’3″ 185) has 163 and 1 touchdown on 12 catches, Junior WR Mace Manaea (5’11″ 175) is next with 154 and 2 touchdowns on 14 catches.

“We’re ready to get to that championship… We’ve got to take it one game at a time though.” Lakes Sophomore WR Sammie Long**

Lakes Lancers Junior OL #73 Zach Banner is 6'9" 320 and already has over 30 offers, including offers from Alabama, LSU, Miami (Florida), Nebraska, Oregon, USC and Washington

While the Lancers may no longer have a 1-2 punch at tailback with Wilson and Cotton, they still have a 1-2 punch with QB Dozier and Junior RB Levonte Littlejohn (5’11″ 185) who has 1,676 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns this season on 141 carries. Littlejohn has rushed for 100+ yards in 6 games this year, 2 of which were 200+ and Littlejohn even ran for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns on 23 carries in week 9 when Lakes defeated Bonny Lake 42-14, with the 3A SPSL title on the line. Littlejohn has an average of 11.88 yards per rush because he can break off a very long run at the drop of a hat. Littlejohn has touchdown runs this season of 41,43,46,50,54,59,61 and 61 and has a long run on the season of 74 yards.

“Growing up, I’ve always wanted the ball in my hands when the game is on the line… That’s when I work my hardest.” Lakes Junior RB Levonte Littlejohn***

5 other Lancer RB’s have rushed for at least 100 yards this season, Senior Daniel Davis (5’7″ 175) has 192 yards on 33 carries and 1 touchdown, Sophomore Dominic Milton (5’9″ 215) has 135 yards on 14 carries and 2 touchdowns, Junior David Wood (6’4″ 220) has 124 yards on 24 carries and 1 touchdown, Junior Mane Manaea (5’11″ 175) has 116 yards on 6 carries and 1 touchdown, and Sophomore Kevin Thompson (5’6″ 175) has 108 yards on 14 carries and 1 touchdown. Senior FB Artem Petryokov (6’0″ 225) only has 20 carries on the season for 70 yards but the big fella has scored 7 rushing touchdowns this year.

When your team rushes for 3,593 and 46 touchdowns, you know the offensive line has to be pretty darn good. Lakes Junior OL Zach Banner (6’9″ 310) is the anchor of that good offensive line. Banner already has over 30 offers according to Dirk Knudsen of, including Alabama, LSU, Maiai (Florida), Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, USC and Washington.

“Football for me right now is just fun. I love it. People ask me all the time why I’d rather play offensive line than defensive line where you get to hit people. But, I feel that when I’m blocking someone and we score a touchdown, I score at the same time – that’s my assist for the team. If someone on my team doesn’t make a block and we are losing, I want it to be me rather than someone else. I feel that I’d rather have the team on my back than on someone else’s.” Lakes Junior OL Zach Banner****

Defensively the Lancers run a 3-4 with both OLB’s up on the line standing up. Lakes likes to walk up a safety to just behind one of the 2 MLB’s to stick 8 in the box, and has even brought up both safety’s at times making a 9 man box.

Senior DL Eddie Releford (6’2″ 240) leads the defense in tackles per game with 5.1 and was listed on Ron Siegel’s list of top Seniors this year. Senior DL Artem Petryokov (6’0″ 225) is 2nd on the team with 44 solo tackles and averages 4.3 per game to go along with his 7 rushing touchdowns mentioned above. 5 other Lakes defenders average over 4 tackles per game, Sophomore LB Kevin Thompson (5’6″ 175) averages 4.9, Junior DB Mane Manaea (5’11″ 175) averages 4.8, Sophomore LB Dominic Milton (5’9″ 215) averages 4.5, Junior LB J.J. Njoku (5’9″ 185) averages 4.3 and Senior LB Austin Clark (6’0″ 205) also averages 4.3 per game.

Releford leads the team with 6 sacks while Njoku has 3. Milton and Petryakov each have 2 on the season.

6 different Lakes players have at least 1 interception on the season, led by Senior DB Matt Bashaw (5’10″ 170) who has 6. Lakes has 13 overall as a team.

  2. Uniongreen Fan on November 17th, 2010 1:32 pm

Banner didn’t look that good in that video. He’s just big. Maybe it’s harder to block guys without pads on. The quick guys ate him alive. Strange. Those USC, Nebraska, Miami, Oregon scouts don’t know ANYTHING about football.

Lakes all night i really dont think dozier is like mike vick and Camas offense did rack up 56 against rainer beach a playoff team

  7. bringingbacktheredandblack on November 17th, 2010 2:51 pm

lakes- i dont think dozier having an average of about 85 passing yards a game, if you dont count the evergreen and decatur games, is one, michael vick stats, and two enough to beat camas, let alone by 17.

  8. southerner on November 17th, 2010 3:02 pm

Lakes all Night, sad to say that your comment is unfounded. You know very little about the Camas team and what they can do on either side of the ball.

It has not been a free pass for either team. It will be a hard fought game with neither team rolling over on the other. Furthermore, your prediction is way off.

Talk less and show up to the game to see what the real outcome is…Camas wins!

  9. Someone on November 17th, 2010 6:48 pm

Lakes banner has size and that’s it and in the video he got beat half the time. I was at the evergreen game and he was being around. He only has size. I admit he has A LOT of potential though
