Columbia River Knocks Off Prairie 27-21 On The Road For Crucial League Win
Written by Bryan Levesque on October 9, 2010
Columbia River took a 21-0 2nd quarter lead at Prairie only to see the Falcons storm back and tie the game at 21 before the Chieftains won 27-26 in Battle Ground.
Four different Chieftain’s scored Friday night. Tylor Jaskierny’s 27 yard fumble return for a score in the first quarter got River rolling. QB Clayton Frank then ran in a score and hit Jordan Erdman from 17 yards out later in the half for the 21-0 lead.
The Falcons just could not catch a break in the first half, as Jesse Zalk had both a punt and kickoff that he returned 50+ yards for a score called back on penalties.
Zalk did run back a pick 49 yards for a score in the 3rd quarter to cut the River lead to 21-14, then tied the game at 21 with his 2 yard score in the 4th quarter.
Chieftain RB Remick Kawawaki, however, delivered the final blow with his 13 yard touchdown run.
With the win Columbia River improves to 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in league play. The Chieftains will host Fort Vancouver (2-4 0-3) next Friday at Chieftain Stadium 7:00 p.m. Prairie falls to 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in league play with the loss. The Falcons will travel to Hudson’s Bay (1-5 0-3) next Friday at Kiggins Bowl 5:00 p.m.
