Former Columbia River Chieftains Offensive Lineman Russell Piette singed a letter of intent with the University of Montana today.
Piette had been playing for Western Washington University. Western has dropped it’s football program after the 2008 season. Russell had already enrolled in school but will now be on scholarship. Russell started all 11 games last season for the Vikings.
While at Columbia River, Piette earned 3 varsity letters in football and was second-team all-league his senior year as well as being voted the teams Most Improved Lineman.
Another name familiar to GSHL football fans has signed with Montana today.
Bellevue running back Peter Nguyen will also be headed to Missoula. Nguyen helped lead the Wolverines to a 35-6 win over Union in the 3A WIAA state championship game in December. Nguyen ran for 152 yards and one touchdown in the win and also was voted the 3A Player of the Year.
