  1. aaaa on August 23rd, 2010 10:29 pm

why is it that union has the majority of the 8 o clock games and no one else has more than like 3

  2. Tape Measure on August 23rd, 2010 11:21 pm

Piland made the schedule, they are the main event you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Someone on August 24th, 2010 9:44 am

I also noticed that union has almost every 8:00 game at Mckenzie Stadium except like 1 game. Isnt that unfair for the rest of the Evergreen School District High Schools?

  4. DCGardner on August 24th, 2010 9:53 am

I think it is silly to assume that Piland made this schedule without any input from the other coaches…

It’s also kind weird that people think that a 3 hour difference in game time will be that big of a deal.

  5. Main on August 24th, 2010 1:31 pm

Actually it does make a difference.

First, at a 5 o’clock game, the sun hasnt gone down. An added factor to be taken into account by any teams passing game. No reciever wants to look into the sun.

Second, and most important, fans. Parents as well as other adults looking to watch some friday night action are still at work. And the fans that need that kind of trasportation cannot get there as well.

    A 5 o’clock pregame? dead.
    An 8 o’clock? absolutely insane.

Atmosphere is an important part of the game to all players. Theres nothing quite like ACTUALLY being under the lights.

  6. HHS Fan on August 24th, 2010 2:14 pm

Why would the powers to be schedule Issaquah @ 5pm opening day rather than have EHS vs MV play first allowing travel time for the traveling team. This makes absolutely no sense and should be flipped for this game. Those that do the scheduling should reconsider the Sept 3rd opener since a schedule change to accomodate the out-of-town school would be the best scenario in this case. This change would allow the traveling team to not leave their school until after 2 pm Sept 3 and not miss very much school if any.

    EHS vs MV @ 5:00pm
    HHS vs Issaquah @ 8pm

“I think it is silly to assume that Piland made this schedule without any input from the other coaches”…

“It’s also kind weird that people think that a 3 hour difference in game time will be that big of a deal”.

You are such a “homer” DC. Timing of all games is a huge factor and Piland knows it. Piland could have scheduled himself a 5:00pm game Sept 10th @ McKenzie but instead, scheduled a Saturday game for himself @ McKenzie. Trust me, the guy is ALL ABOUT HIS TEAM!!! Don’t give me some BS story about they played the Saturday before and his team needed the rest. Look at the schedule and how he set his team up for this season. Selfish only comes to mind…

  8. DCGardner on August 24th, 2010 2:49 pm

In regards to the game on September 10th, could it not be that because of the almost 3 hour drive from Enumclaw they suggested to have the game on a Saturday making it easier on the fans and players alike to make the trip down?

But of course I’m sure you like your conspiracy theories better. Gives you more of an excuse to be a hater.

  9. Football Fanatic on August 24th, 2010 4:34 pm

Same could be said for the Issaquah vs Heritage game which is a LONGER drive for the Eagles by an exact 14 minutes. Why was that game scheduled for a Friday @ 5:00pm? Not only will the players miss school to leave early because of travel, but those parents who can make the trip will have to miss some work and those who can not miss work will miss seeing their Son’s game because of poor scheduling. Again, this game should be flip flopped with the EHS vs MV game!

    Just say’n.

  10. LBC on August 24th, 2010 7:13 pm

You are all Morons!! Why would any of the GSHL teams try to accomodate an out of town team?? Any and every advantage should be taken when you have the chance!

To say, “Let’s do whatever we can to make sure the visiting team has has a fair and even chance!” totally takes away from being the home team!!

Why make it any easier for the out of town schools when you all know they don’t respect southwest football

  11. UHS on August 24th, 2010 8:01 pm

Football fanatic, Thats heritage’s fault and why are you ripping Union skyview has a game the same day get over it.

  12. Someone on August 24th, 2010 8:15 pm

Even though Piland is scheduling the games he should at least be fair and splitting the 8:00 games and the 5:00 games evenly among evergreen school district teams. So after reading the schedule a little bit I found out that Union has 5 late games at Mckenzie which includes away games Evergreen and Mountain View has 3 each and Heritage has only 2. I would say that Piland probably did get some input from other coaches but im pretty sure that Heritage and Mountain View are having the low end of the schedule ( Mtn. View only has 1 home game at 8:00 the other games are away games).

  13. Someone on August 24th, 2010 8:29 pm

Oh and I almost forgot ii you think that this is a theory to be hating on union or whoever then the evergreen school district should just make it so there is one game only so a 7:00 game on friday and another 7:00 on saturday just sayin

  14. Football Fanatic on August 24th, 2010 9:20 pm

“Thats heritage’s fault and why are you ripping Union skyview has a game the same day get over it”.

That’s Heritage’s fault? Get a clue UHS! The Skyview match up has a team coming from Idaho, not 2 hrs 45 min North of Vancouver. UHS also scheduled a 1:00 pm kick off so they could scout Skyview @ 7pm the same day. Oh yeah, try to chalk it up to giving the area 2 football games in the same day but we know why Piland set this schedule up. No worries, the October 29th 8:00pm no less match up with Skyview won’t be for the league championship anyway.

  15. chrish on August 24th, 2010 10:18 pm

UHS, Skyview has a game on saturday because the team that they are playing is from idaho.

  16. egreen on August 24th, 2010 11:45 pm

Why is everyone so upset? EVERGREEN is the power house this year. Don’t matter what time or what place!

    GO BIG GREEN!

  17. greater saint on August 25th, 2010 1:12 am

    go camas!!!!!

  18. titan fan on August 25th, 2010 3:34 am

Shame on Piland for looking out for his team….maybe some other coaches should step up for their team and this discussion wouldn’t be taking place…i will take a coach who goes to bat for my kids..

  19. egreen on August 25th, 2010 8:07 am

Bryan, Could we please have a link to a printable version of the list above?

  23. Former Egreen Parent on September 16th, 2010 8:53 pm

When Union opened the District made a statement that there would be No Boundary Exceptions. However, if your child was an excellent athlete or student, then they made exceptions. The goal of the district was to have a model school that cost over $60,000,000 with model students and athletes, regardless of where they actually lived. Anything less would not look good for the district, so there was cherry picking.
Piland is smart, he knows how to get what he wants, so he took advantage of it.
Fair? Certainly not. Is life fair? Certainly not. Quite a lesson to teach students.

  24. DCGardner on September 16th, 2010 11:52 pm

Sounds like a lot of sour grapes and unsubstantiated nonsense FEP. And I mean a lot of it.

  25. unionsoph on September 17th, 2010 9:56 pm

union has mostly away games so the amount of croud is going to be less because of that, and really we should have more home games than we do. get over it… and you know what yeah union made boundary exceptions, i got one… but maybe one should think about this, there is a reason that so many people even want a boundary exception into union, there is a reason that we work so hard at this school, and that’s why we are so good. Not cause we might have a few good students and atheletes, its cause were not busy sitting on our butts complaining that everyone hates us. you would think that after three years people would get over it…

  26. camas on September 17th, 2010 10:01 pm

okay sorry egreen, but if you can’t beat mountain view, lakes, or richland… that’s NOT a powerhouse… lol

  27. Former Egreen Parent on September 30th, 2010 8:36 pm

To DC Gardner- Not sour grapes just the truth, easily proved. Let’s take the rosters of the past few seasons and look at the listed addresses of the players, then compare with the addresses from before the split. These were my sons former classmates/teammates, so I know where they live. The reason it wasn’t investigated is that it would be a black eye for the district. The point is, the district was on record stating there would not be boundary exceptions, then immediately violated it. What is really amusing, is that the district spent over $40,000,000 on improvements at Evergreen HS. When you consider the value of the property and the existing building it reeally has about the same value as Union as they started from scratch. It was just the “newness” and the proximity to high value homes on the Camas/Vanc. border that made it so popular. I don’t begrudge Piland for wanting to go there, but do not believe he is ethical in knowingly recruiting athletes from the other schools in the area. Over time the power structure will change, E-Green will be back. E-Green students work as hard as all of the other schools, that’s why they have the most AP Classes for a HS in the state, an outstanding band, incredible music and dramatic programs.

  28. DCGardner on September 30th, 2010 9:24 pm

If the Evergreen School District allowed it then it isn’t against policy. They are the policy makers. The policy changed the moment they allowed it. Get over it.

  29. MVHS Athlete on September 30th, 2010 10:14 pm

Mountain View is in the top 5% schools in the nation…they have the most students taking and passing AP tests…one of the top bands in all of the west coast…and one of the top musical productions every year…good one FEP

  30. Your Mom on October 1st, 2010 10:57 am

Union recruiting = dead horse. FEP if you take those rosters and compare before and after, all you’re going to see is maybe some kids with Dad’s address instead of Mom’s. The players who started at Union that first year had all grown up dreaming of playing the big EHS-MVHS rivalry and weren’t too keen about starting at a new school. But let’s say you’ve got parents in two different areas and one has a coach with a recent state championship under his belt. Which one would you choose?
I’m a FEP too. My kid had a great experience there and got a good education. I find it sad at the identity crisis that seems to be happening at EHS and MVHS, both quality schools with some things to really be proud of. Hope they figure that out.
And btw…I can name you a number of former Union student athletes playing at other schools right now. Does that necessarily mean they were recruited, or just that they thought their needs would be better served elsewhere? I think it’s the latter.
