Columbia RIver jumped out to an early 13-0 1st quarter lead when RB Remick Kawawaki and QB Clayton Frank each scored rushing touchdowns. Battle Ground got on the board in the 3rd when QB Ian Humphrey hit WR Trevor Ingram in the corner of the end zone from 23 yards out however it was not enough and the Chieftains won 16-6.
With the win Columbia River improves to 1-0 on the season. The Chieftains travel to Kelso (0-1) Friday at Schroeder Field 7:00 p.m, to kick off their league schedule. Battle Ground falls to 0-1 on the season with the loss. The Tigers will host Fort Vancouver (0-1) Friday at District Stadium 7:00 p.m.
