Game Recap – Mountain View 34 Columbia River 28

In a game that each half was played on a separate day, the host Mountain View Thunder ended up holding on for a 34-28 victory over Columbia River. Friday night Mountain View jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the second quarter when RB Michael Rivers racked up 156 yards rushing scoring 3 rushing touchdowns on runs of 5,62 and 46 yards. However Columbia River took the lead just before half time on a pair of Clayton Frank to Dennis Henderson touchdown passes. Then the lights went out. After a lengthy delay where no one could figure out why the stadium lights went out, the game was postponed until Saturday.
Saturday Mountain View struck early in the third quarter when QB Riley O’Dell hit Cory Craegan on a 36 yard touchdown pass, then DL/K Chavo Camargo intercepted a Frank pass and ran it back 52 yards for a score. Columbia River now down 34-21 however did not give up and but the lead to 6 when RB Remick Kawawaki ran in a 3 yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Then down 34-28 the Chieftains were able to drive the football down inside the Thunder 20 but were unable to score before the game ended. Rivers finished the game with 171 rushing yards and the 3 touchdowns. Columbia River WR Dennis Henderson had 167 receiving yards on 13 catches and the 2 touchdowns in the loss.
Mountain View improves their record to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in league play with the win. The Thunder will host Auburn Mountainview Saturday at McKenzie, time TBD in the preliminary round of the WIAA State Playoffs. Columbia River falls to 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in league play with the loss. The Chieftains season is over.
