Heritage 2009 Spring Practice Breakdown

June 20, 2009

As spring practice comes to a close, what are your initial thoughts about your team?

Coach Becksted – We have good numbers out and the kids are working hard. We have had the best off-season in the weight room in my time here. We have a ways to go, but we could be pretty good. We return 9 guys on offense with starting experience and 5 of 6 skill players so we should score points. The defensive staff is working hard to get the new guys ready. Well see!

Who are 3-4 of your returning players from last year’s Varsity team?

Coach Becksted – We have seven guys back who were on the all-league team last year: Garrett Grayson, Cody Yahn, Mike Matsubara, Doug Van Aalst, Mike Mcdonald, Darrell Chamberline, Dean Rogers

What players were not on the Varsity last season who you expect to be impact players this season?

Coach Becksted – Moving up from JV- Joe Rhea, Jonte Hasan, David Painter, Tyrell Quigley, Alex Smith, Ben Lyons. New to the program- Desmond Leilua, Tarick Subasic, Zack Kruse, Harrison Dean

About how many players are you expecting to turn out in the fall?

Coach Becksted – JV-Varsity-(90-100) Frosh- (55-60)

What are your goals as a team for the 2009 season?

Coach Becksted – We want to win another league title, but the league should be competitive this year. I am expecting Skyview to be very good, MV is the best coached team in the league so they will be strong as usuall, BG is going to be much improved, Kelso was very young last year and should be improved, Evergreen is a mystery to me, but they went out and got a very proven coach. We would like to make the post season for third year in a row and win a few playoff games.
