Mountain View Shocks Evergreen In 20-14 Win

Written by Bryan Levesque on October 31, 2009

Evergreen led 14-0 with 7 minutes left in the game. The Thunder scored 20 points in the final minutes for the 20-14 win.

Since Heritage had lost to Skyview and Kelso had defeated Battle Ground, Evergreen just needed to hold their 14-0 lead and they would have created a 3 way tie for 2nd place in the 4A GSHL. However that did not happen after a 77 yard TD pass from Lucas Swanson to Rashan Williams tied the game, then following a Thunder interception, Andrew White caught a 51 yard TD pass from Swanson for the game winner with 30 seconds left in the 4th.

With the win Mountain View improves to 5-4 and 2-3 in league. The Thunder will host Fort Vancouver (2-7) on Saturday at 1pm in a week 10 non league cross over game. This is not a playoff game.

Evergreen drops to 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in league play. The Plainsmen’ season is over.

This was a great game! Mt. View showed alot of heart and fight and it all payed off in the end. E-Green playwed very well and just couldn’t hang on. GREAT season’s for both teams. They will both be excellent teams next year!
Thanks for making things interesting and playing hard!

This was one of the greatest game that mountain view has ever played. evergreen talked all there talk but at the end it showed that mountain view came out to talk with our pads. love you guys and imma gonna miss this team!

Altho things did’t start off well in the first 3 quarters, Mountain View came out strong in the end! This was the best game that Mountain View has ever played. The crowd was cheering loud for our fellow players. This season was a great season for both teams. Great job and GOOOOOOOOO THUNDER!

  5. The wing T on October 31st, 2009 12:46 pm

The wing T will be back for the league champinship next year. I have some of my boys coming up from down south and we will making it easy as pie.

Yo Chi, I understand your enthusiasm, but to say it was Thunder’s best game ever is a bit of a stretch. In fact, the first half was so dull I left at halftime to go watch “Zombieland” instead. Now THAT was entertaining! :-) Thank goodness for text messaging – I found out about the Union comeback before the movie, and about the Mtn View comeback afterward. I must say that the Thunder band – like Union & Camas – is amazing. Those kids and their director really know how to keep an audience engaged!

  7. MVHSStudent on October 31st, 2009 4:50 pm

Funny how everyone underestimated mountain view. the team just has some great seniors who will most likely moving on to college ball. the seniors of this team went undefeated except for one game their freshmen year. that game was against evergreen. this was a well deserved win for those boys. great game.

  8. MVHSStudent on October 31st, 2009 4:51 pm

Might I add that we lost a lot of talent with the opening of Union…but hey…those kids got their beginning at the greatest school in the area.

  9. Chi on November 1st, 2009 4:23 pm

Yea I guess it wouldn’t be MTV best game haha. I kinda got carried away. I hear Unoin might be a 4A school next year? Is that true? Cuase Unoin is going to Own if they are in 4A (Even tho they are already owning). Camus did good to hold off unoin. It was a close game

  10. greater saint on November 1st, 2009 5:47 pm

both camas and union will be 4A and kelso is dropping back to 3A

  11. ThunderMan on November 1st, 2009 6:22 pm

  12. Bryan Levesque on November 1st, 2009 6:32 pm

Sorry, it is up now. I put it on the home page, and on each teams page, but forgot to add it here.

wowowow i love how no evergreen kids wanna talk crap now. u guys were lucky this game was not a blow out. we fumbled in the red zone twice. u guys have a good offense but its to bad… two years in a row now… i have played key roles in both of the wins and its feels so good. oh ya and marvin i told u not to throw another pick ha ha this time u threw two.. lol but anyways good luck in alll the other sport u guys think you are gunna beat us in…

  14. DP on November 3rd, 2009 9:16 pm

we knew we were gonna win this game it was just a matter of if we played for 48 minutes….next year will be three in a row

  15. Lets be honest on November 4th, 2009 8:59 am

Lets be honest… you got physically dominated. PERIOD. Watch the film. I know this isn’t the real #56 but watch how many times #60 from EHS whooped “you.” He is a junior! Yes, your team won. Good job. But you won with 3 plays (all big plays) and nothing else. You beat sophomores and a few juniors. You beat a team that has now had 3 head coaches, 3 offenses, 3 defenses, and no weight training program. Next year? Please. Worry about your underclassesmen game vs Fort (even though the can food drive thing is pretty cool) because Fort is going to give them a game (which is sad).

  16. EX GSHL Player on November 4th, 2009 3:02 pm

“Lets Be Honest…” I most definitely will here. As a 1st year school running the Double Wing I give you much credit…did a very good job. However to say MVHS was dominated is a stretch. What you run is a gimmic offense that looks like a rugby scrum. At times it’s effective but at other times not very much especially if you get behind early in a game. MVHS was behind at halftime due to the lack of execution by the offense. Dropped balls and bad passes to open receivers was the main reason. Nothing EGHS did caused those things to happen but instead it was lack of focus by the Thunder offense. In the end the better teams always win. MVHS made adjustments at halftime and held your “gimmic offense” to zero points in the 2nd half. Then it seemed to me MVHS ran many of the same plays in the 2nd half as they did in the 1st half with one big difference. They executed. There is no one on your team that could cover WR’s # 3 and # 24 for Mt View. Matter a fact # 3 out ran your whole secondary. (Look at the film) Also the TE for the Thunder was wide open in the end-zone for an easy score but as I have seen many times before the QB for the Thunder makes a horrible throw. He was also open in the endzone later in the game on 4th down and the QB ran instead of putting the ball in the air for an easy TD but instead turned the ball over on downs. Why they don’t get the ball to #99 more as he is a huge target I will never quite understand. However when it really mattered and the game was on the line # 24 beat your secondary for the game winner. If MVHS executes in the 1st half they win this 42 – 14. And also don’t forget how # 28 and # 31 for MVHS shredded your run defense for over a 150 yards.

If MVHS executes for 4qtrs vs Skyview and Heritage they would be the #1 or #2 seed going to the play-offs. No question they beat themselves this year.

  19. Super Size Me on November 5th, 2009 9:07 am

“big one”….what’s up with your lack of writing and English skills? You from Compton? Did you transfer in from SoCal? And if you were so dominate on the offensive side why couldn’t you guys score in the 2nd half? Maybe you should go back and watch the film and let us all know what happened…was it play calling? # 51 got tired? Did you cramp up? Stayed up too late lip syncing to NWA? What gives man? Please tell us why you couldn’t get into the endzone in the 2nd half…let’s hear the excuses….?

  20. Bryan Levesque on November 5th, 2009 10:44 am

Just for the record, Evergreen DID score in the second half. Marvin Thomas scored in the 4th quarter on a 3 yrd run.

MV — Rashan Williams 77 pass from Lucas Swanson (Camargo kick)

mmmmmm so you dont watch film eh?

  23. E D? on November 6th, 2009 9:34 am

Why isn’t anyone talking about the terrible defense by Evergreen? Mt. View did nothing in the third and had 3 big plays for the majority of their offense in the 4th quarter. They scored 3 times under 6 minutes. Why didn’t Evergreen head coach step up and take over? GET YOUR DBs BACK AND KEEP EVERYTHING INFRONT OF YOU. I am excited about watching Evergreens offense next year but if they don’t change that defense; DONE.

GO SKYVIEW!!! 42-14 Here we come PLAYOFFS!

  24. UHSParent on November 6th, 2009 10:31 am

Well the new coach at Egreen from what I am told is a “know it all.” He believed his style of defense would be better then anyones around. Whats even funnier is kids our still leaving the program because of the new coach.

  25. Thunder Athlete on November 6th, 2009 10:32 am

Hey E D, the reality is that Evergreen obviously didn’t have the athletes to cover those guys…whether they play man to man, zone etc., etc…it wouldn’t matter. Defensive plans are only good if you have the athletes to execute them…sorry but true. Coaching wasn’t the problem…

  26. titan fan on November 6th, 2009 10:41 am

Well UHS parent that is a bunch of BS. He is a great coach that has gotten rid of the bad apples, or just kids that decided they didn’t want to work very hard.

Why is it funny that kids are leaving the program? You had a couple kids who left last year because they didn’t like the offense and because two of them were receivers, which I can understand. Also, are the kids really leaving? Or just not getting their way, like they did with the previous lax coach, sulking, then asked to leave? I’m guessing the latter.

EHS coach has a great resume and I know that doesn’t always make you a great coach, but he is. He competed at the D1 level and then a little bit in the pro’s (NFL and CFL) he knows what it takes to get there.

Nothing is funny about a kid leaving a program because they want the easy way out.

  27. ThunderMan on November 11th, 2009 11:28 pm

Lets Be Honest.. Fort didn’t give anyone a game last Saturday.. I wouldn’t be too worried.

Lets not joke about Mountain View having the 1 seed in 4A. Something went wrong that night with the Skyview defense. Only one other unranked team manged 20 points against the Storm and that was in a game where they had a secure win despite those 22 points. I read the reports on that game, Mountain View didnt lose because they gave up, your coach said they played hard for 48 minutes and they must have for what they accomplished. They only lost because Skyview got its act together in the locker room. It was just like the Union Camas game, Union was down in the 4th because Camas was playing hard, Union realized things were all backwards and came back out and showed Camas how to play football like a boss. Just feel lucky the Storm Defense didnt give you the same treatment it gave to the 6 teams with 14 or less points (my hat off to Union who matched defense for defense and actually won 14-9 with only those two TDs).
