Bryan, your write up says that RAL has clinched a payoff spot. Couldn’t there end up with a scenario of a three way tie if Washougal upsets Mark Morris and Mark Morris beats RAL? All three would then be 3-1 and they would probably play a 3 way tiebreaker for the 2 playoff spots, wouldn’t they?

I went down to Hockinson last night and watched the Jacks beat the Hawks. The Civil War between MM and RAL should be a good one. Although RAL’s schedule has not been as tough as MM’s, I think the two teams are evenly matched. It’s good for Longview that the two will be playing for the league title for the 2nd year in a row. It will be interesting to see how RAL’s defense does against the MM run game. If we can force MM to pass the ball, we will win.

  3. JACK on October 16th, 2010 9:05 am

No one can run on the jacks ,

  4. Storm Swarm on October 16th, 2010 11:09 am

    JACK: Skyview,union and camas could

  5. hey on October 16th, 2010 11:19 am

do you plan on seeing any of those teams playing R.A.Long this year? no. then who cares. they play at a different level

  6. Storm Swarm on October 16th, 2010 11:25 am

dont say nobody can run on the lumberjacks then because theres 5 teams that could in the GSHL!

  7. GSHL Fotball Fan 2010 on October 16th, 2010 11:30 am

Mt View would easily put up over 300 yards on the jacks

  8. Longview on October 16th, 2010 12:22 pm

Hahaha I love the big town Vancouver people that think there poo doesn’t stink. Never been or spent much time in the blue collar hick town of Longview.. We live off 3 things up here… Logging, Ra Long, and Mark Morris. And both the schools have successful all around athletic programs and we are happy because of it. Vancouver doesn’t have anything that brings there community together like ours does. Longview all the way. We got hell of a lot more pride up here then you guys do.

  9. wsumj on October 16th, 2010 12:34 pm

RAL has had some success the last few years. Wasnt last year the first year they made it to a state playoff game?

  10. wsumj on October 16th, 2010 12:40 pm

As far as no one running on the Jacks. Its hard to say who would do it at the 3A or 4A level. No one is stopping Union… Camas, Skyview, and Mt. View all have solid running games… So in all actuality, if they could run on RAL, we will never know.

What we do know is… Sam O Hara from the Shoug ran over 150 yards on that Jack Run D.

  11. MVHS Athlete on October 16th, 2010 1:30 pm

Longview…have you ever been to a union game? they load that place up…also its kinda hard to bring a community together when you have 10+ schools

  12. Papi Grande on October 16th, 2010 1:56 pm

For starters, are u seriously talking about 3A and 4A school running on the jacks? That might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Of course big schools would be better, the frickin Oregon Ducks would kick Union’s butt! Second, O’Hara had 149 total yards from scrimmage, not on the ground. Lastly, like the Jack love, but let’s not get carried away. Centralia ran it pretty well. Vancouver schools, do something at state then run your mouth!

  13. MeanMachineBleacherCreature on October 16th, 2010 5:05 pm

Ahem, just to interject here, Camas only has one high school, and that brings the entire community together than RAL or MM, in Longview, a town with two teams. Everybody who is anybody from Camas is at Doc Harris on Friday nights. You shoulda seen the line of cars/people waiting to get into the game at 5 o clock yesterday. People live and die for football in Camas.

  14. MeanMachineBleacherCreature on October 16th, 2010 5:06 pm

    together more than**

  15. papi grande on October 16th, 2010 6:44 pm

Just to add another thought to the topic, two high school towns sucks! If by bring a town together you mean everyone in the town hating the people from the other high school than you nailed it on the head. Add to the mix one of the high schools has all the cards in the deck stacked in their favor and then have the arrogance to act all high and mighty because they beat the other school the majority of the time, woo freakin hoo. If you have all the advantages, you should win, but try doing it with some class rather than looking down your noses at the folk from the wrong side of the tracks. I think it’s fair to say of of the Longview school do more with less and the opposite may be true for the other. OK, I’m off my soap box.

  16. Storm from EWU on October 16th, 2010 6:57 pm

Its funny that you should ask Vancouver teams to do something at state. Because last time I checked Mark Morris and RA Long have combined for an impressive 1 state tournament win in the last 4 seasons (2006-2009). Where, on the other hand, Vancouver has had two teams represent the city in 8 state tournament wins. And if you want to really get into representation, I would direct your attention to the year 2004, when this one team from this one city did this one thing where they went 14-0 to a state championship. Or perhaps 2006 when a Vancouver rivalry game brought over 9000 to Kiggins Bowl (which I doubt is the only time we have seen a standing room only crowd, Im sure the Union Camas games have been big etc.) Vancouver and Camas football are doing OK I think. I have plenty to root for when I watch games on Friday night, and I would say the thousands of other fans that come out feel the same way. I’ll bet the fans that drove over 360 miles to freeze through a grueling semi final with me would agree as well. I would venture to say that we have plenty of pride here.

  17. wsumj on October 16th, 2010 7:14 pm

Papi Grande…. Funny… Union is in Camas. You could ALMOST insert ” Camas” into your post instead of Longview. It would still be about 90% true!

  18. Papi Grande on October 16th, 2010 8:44 pm

The funny thing is that Longview schools are the ones on here saying how sweet they are. Don’t remember where I stated that either RALong or MM where powerhouses, they aren’t.

It’s funny to read these back and forth blogs playing the “what if” game and how personal it gets. Union, Camas, and Mt View are very strong programs and any of them would probably beat the Jacks but who really cares? They don’t play each other. I would like to see some non-league games with RAL against other GSHL schools besides Ft Vancouver or Bay. Maybe not necessarily Union, Skyview or Camas but maybe Prairie, Col River or go back to playing Kelso every year again. We did beat a good Rainier team but got manhandled by Centralia. That game was a few weeks ago and I think we learned a lot from it and if we meet them in the first round of the playoffs at RAL, it’ll probably be a different story. We play Aberdeen next week, who is 1-6 and maybe not a great tune-up for Mark Morris, but what can you do about it? RAL-MM will pack Memorial Stadium but in reality it probably doesn’t compare to Camas-Union. What I do know is that the town of Longview is proud of their teams just like Camas is proud of theirs. when you look at where Longview’s two programs were 5 years ago, it’s a different ballgame now. Two straight years of playing for the league title is good for Longview and I hope it’s a hard fought game with good sportsmanship on the field and in the stands.

  21. Papi Grande on October 17th, 2010 11:21 am

Thing to remember is coaches have very little say if any in the non-league schedule. Kelso did not have room on schedule for both RAL and MM. You see who they chose.

  22. MVHS Athlete on October 17th, 2010 12:18 pm

Coaches have a lot of say in the schedule? its them and the AD’s that talk about it every year. Kelso only had 3 non league games thats the problem

  23. HiLander#37 on October 17th, 2010 12:20 pm

I would luv to see RAL and Kelso play AGAIN, in the next Couple Years, but that will never Happen???

  24. Papi Grande on October 17th, 2010 6:50 pm

Coaches can try and line up non league games but availability is the major factor. U think Mark Morris wanted to play Hockinson twice? Gshl2a and Evergreen non league games were all based on bye weeks, not coaches choice.

  25. G_Dawg on October 18th, 2010 10:04 am

I’m seriously asking cause I don’t know. Has any GSHL team at any level got a state title ever besides Kelso?

  26. greater saint on October 18th, 2010 11:30 am

evergreen 2004 thanks to a player that would of played for camas named Justin shuelie (probably spelled last name wrong)

  27. MM fan on October 18th, 2010 11:43 am

G_Dawg: I did some checking on the WIAA website and to answer your question, no. It doesn’t look like any GSHL team has ever won a state title except Kelso who won it in 1983. MM took 2nd in 1979 and Woodland took 2nd in 1982. However records only go back as far as 1973. I recall hearing RALong had a powerhouse team in the late 60′s that took it to the house. I believe Mike Polis played on that team. Don’t know if they played a state championship format back then? How long has the WIAA been a governing body? Does anybody know any earlier history on GSHL teams? Is RALong the oldest high school?

  28. MM fan on October 18th, 2010 11:48 am

Oops! Sorry. Evergreen did win in 2004.

  29. ealum on October 18th, 2010 12:23 pm

greater saint, Justin was a valuable member, one of only a couple of juniors who played alot on that team, but I think there were way more valuable players, maybe Taylor Rank

  30. Bryan Levesque on October 18th, 2010 12:55 pm

MM fan – according to wikipedia (which is NEVER wrong, ha ha) R.A. Long was “erected in 1927, three years after the city of Longview was incorporated”. Fort Vancouver High School opened as Vancouver High School in 1888, 39 years earlier. According to my research, the Trappers played a season in 1893, then not again until 1908. In 1908 they went 2-4 lost 26-0 to Portland Academy, lost 39-0 to Columbia U, beat Camas A.C. 12-6, beat Jefferson of Portland 5-0, lost to Washington 30-0, lost to Lincoln of Portland 11-0. The WIAA started a playoff in 1973. Fort (fka Vancouver) went 8-1 in 1920 and lost to Walla Walla 42-6 in the State Championship game. They beat Chehalis (nka W.F. West) 64-0, Jefferson 14-6, Astoria 26-0, Oregon City 54-0, HIllsboro 28-12, Hood River 21-7 and McMinnville 21-7. In 1919 they went 7-1 and lost to Everett 39-7 in the state championship game. They beat Camas 38-0, Alumni 7-0, Oregon City 14-0, Hillsboro 9-7, McMinnville 6-0, Washington School for the Deaf 18-0, and Newberg 34-0.

  32. G_Dawg on October 18th, 2010 1:46 pm

RA Long Alumni Site lists two teams in the Hall of Fame as “Unofficial” Football State Champions (1930 and 1947) The 1967 “Red Mob” team is listed but nothing about a championship.( Mike Polis was indeed on that team) Where’s Whitey Nelmark when you need him?

  33. victory on October 18th, 2010 4:06 pm

Union is NOT in Camas it is in Vancouver City limits with a Camas Postal address.

  34. wsumj on October 18th, 2010 5:55 pm

According to this map (taken from the City of Camas website), Union is indeed in Camas, WA.

Union is located between NE 6th and NE 8th off Friberg-Strunk St.

Not that any of this matters… It is in the Evergreen school district.

  35. MMCHAMPS on October 18th, 2010 8:09 pm

its funny to say that both washugal and centrailla had success running the ball on the jacks and mm has a superb running offense with Feeney leading the gshl in rushing and having RB willy fujioka and nikko asbell plus wolf MM always has been able to runn on long and still will be able to

  36. Jack Supporter on October 18th, 2010 9:17 pm

I can’t wait for RAL and MM to lace em up and duke it out. May the better team win.

  37. Papi Grande on October 18th, 2010 10:24 pm

Centralia 50 rushes over 300 yards vs. RAL- that’s getting gashed. Washougal 40 rushes 146 yards- that’s not getting gashed. Also consider a good chunk of that was vs. JV in the 4th with Jacks up 36-16. What would we do without the blogs?

  40. Jack Supporter on October 19th, 2010 6:49 am

MMCHAMPS, you talk about MM’s running game. What about RAL’s trio of Yordy, Brown, and Wegdahl? They’re doing pretty well.
