Skyview’s Team Effort Outlasts Todd Beamers 1 Man Show For 42-33 Win

Written by Bryan Levesque on November 7, 2010

Skyview held of the pesky Todd Beamer Titans 42-33 Saturday at Kiggins Bowl to advance to the WIAA state football playoffs.

The 3x defending 4A Greater St. Helens League Champion Skyview Storm looked like they were going to blow out the visiting Titans early Saturday afternoon when they jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. WR Ellis Henderson, who finished the game with 116 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns,  ran in from 17 yards out to open the scoring. LB Zack Brady picked off Todd Beamer QB TJ Esekieiu on the next drive setting up the storm at the Titans 24. 3 plays later Kieran McDonagh hit WR Forest Russell on a swing pass for a 9 yard touchdown.

Todd Beamer however was not in the mood to get blown out, and on the legs of Esekieiu just keep chipping away at the Storm, and cut the lead to 14-13 midway through the 2nd quarter.

Skyview only needed 3 plays to answer the Titans and jump back out 21-13. McDonagh went deep to Reiley Henderson for a 36 yard pickup down to the Beamer 22, when RB Parker Henry, who rushed for 139 yards on 19 carries on the night, scored on the next play running right up the middle of the Titans defense.

Following a 10 play 80 yard scoring drive by Todd Beamer to cut the lead to 21-19, Skyview again answered quickly. It only took 4 plays to go 62 yards when Reiley Henderson took a perfectly set up reverse pitch play in from 9 yards out giving Skyview the 28-19 lead at the break.

Just like in the 1st quarter where it looked like Skyview was about to blow the game open, the 3rd quarter started that way as well.

On the second play of the quarter, McDonagh got the ball out quickly to his left to Reiley Henderson, who took a few quick steps to get the Todd Beamer defender off ballance, then he was off to the races for a 70 yard touchdown and a 35-19 Storm lead with 11:10 left in the 3rd quarter. Reiley had 105 yards receiving on the night.

Todd Beamer however drove 82 yards in 12 plays and converted a 2 point conversion to cut the lead to 35-27 on their next drive.

Following 2 Skyview and 1 Todd Beamer punts, the Titans again went back to work in the 4th quarter.

Esekieiu, who flat out put on a show Saturday, led Todd Beamer on a 16 play 62 yard drive taking up almost 8 minutes of the 4th quarter, that was capped off by a 2 yard touchdown run by the big fella Marley Liuiama, cutting the lead to 35-33 pending the try for point. Todd Beamer lined up for 2 and the tie, but Esekieiu was stopped by the very tired Skyview defensive line who had been chasing him around all night.

The Titans recovered the onside kick at the Skyview 40 with 3:19 left in the game only down 2, but could not pick up a first down. Esekieiu who had to be exhausted after running for 218 yards on 43 carries slipped and fell while rolling out on a 4th and 8 play.

In an attempt to run out the clock, Ellis Henderson gave the home fans one last thing to cheer about as he took a simple sweep play around the corner and in for a 56 yard touchdown to seal the win.

With the win Skyview improves to 8-2 on the season. The Storm will host Auburn (8-3) next weekend at Kiggins Bowl in the first round of the WIAA 4A football playoffs. Date and time TBD.

Much better game than most people (from down here) expected. Would have been interesting to see what might have transpired had Esekielu not tripped himself up on the 4th down play; the guy’s one great player.

But hat’s off to Skyview, they answered the bell every time Beamer got close. Good luck next week!

Agreed. Esekielu has it all. He carried that team last night. Amazing.
Another great game to watch., Skyview. Keep it up.

How many tackles did #44 get? My favorite memory of the night was nolan chasing #7 around some 30 yards behind the line. What an exhausting game for the d_line…and the fans!

I would agree that the TB QB was something else and fun to watch however, in the end he was flat out tired from not only the amount of carries, but creating on his own to try and make something happen. Not to mention, he played stand up end on defense the whole game. TB just didn’t have enough weapons but put up a great effort. Hats off to them.
I thought Skyview did a great job of getting the ball into several play maker’s hands. I noticed Graves trying to gut it out on offense but looked noticably gimpy. Any word on that? Good luck Skyview and all of the GSHL is pulling for you guys!

I was one of the faithful TB fans who huddled under my umbrella watching that wonderful game. TB is only 5-6 years old as a high school and our record has been horrid over the years – lots of oh-fers. This is TB’s first visit to the playoffs which is why my son and I drove down. I thought the team showed a lot of heart with comeback after comeback. Esekielu was unbelievable, but ran out of gas at the end. Too bad our best running back got hurt early. Skyview fans and team. We want to thank you for welcoming us to your home field. The Storm played fantastic. Your long runs and short passes were too much. Good luck hosting another team from our league, Auburn. It should be another great game…but a clear night would be nice. Still drying out!

Man oh man, what a great game! And that number 7 kid for Todd Beamer was the entire team.. I noticed he was playing quarterback and D end… thought that was interesting.

I have a feeling all of Skyview’s games from now on are going to have 70+ points between both teams! Goodluck to Skyview for the rest of their season.

Oh and ELLIS HENDERSON! BLOCK SOMEONE ON OFFENSE AND SKYVIEW SCORES ATLEAST ONE MORE TIME!

  7. chrish on November 7th, 2010 10:23 pm

Was that a negative comment about Ellis Henderson? Ellis is the best player in southwest Washington. And played the entire game on offense, defense, and most of the special teams.

  8. GSHL all the way! on November 7th, 2010 11:05 pm

I am not saying one negative thing about Ellis’ skill level at all, I would agree that he is one of the best players around here… But I can honestly say his EFFORT to block someone is poor. Re-watch the film and focus on Ellis when he ISN’T getting the ball. My best example would be the slow mo of when Skyview’s quarter back is laying out a TB defensive player. Watch Ellis on that play. 1:53 on the video

  9. Things That Make You Go Hmmm on November 8th, 2010 9:42 am

FanofTB: – I believe your team, and most especially Esekielu have a new fan base here in Vancouver. Considering the fact that your high school is fairly new to the league and never been to the playoffs and Esekielu is new to playing quarterback, TBHS played a great game. I was glad to hear that football has been the avenue for TJ to turn his life around.
GSHL all the way and Chrish – Really? Enough already.

Esekielu. Wow. Too bad he’s a senior. Hope he gets a chance to play somewhere at the next level. Skyview better show up against Auburn or we’re done.

  11. Auburn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on November 8th, 2010 4:49 pm

ahaha… wow!!!! Thats all i can say after watching this video!
I thought Skyview was supposed to be good!

    DREAM ON AUBURN

  13. Stormparent44 on November 8th, 2010 7:08 pm

Have to admit, Auburn!!!!!!! is correct about the quality of play against Beamer just won’t cut it against Auburn. At least with Beamer you know where the ball is going to be, (just not where its going). I think we can all remember Alfonse Wade running all over last year, and that was with all league linebackers. Still Happy Iona won’t be there to clog the middle, and I would say both teams defenses are less than they were last year. Curtis is a monster, and Skyline looked very beatable. Could be very interesting playoff. Nobody can match our kicking game!

  14. Friday Night Fan on November 8th, 2010 7:22 pm

Skyview will score 35 to 40 points. Auburn will score 35 to 40 points. It is going to come down to turn overs and which defense can get a stop in the fourth quarter. Auburn was a beast last year. What a great game. Skyview is a bit soft a LB and that might hurt them against Auburn’s running attack… However it is hard to prepare for the Storms screen game if they can get some balance with P Henry. Should be a great game Go Storm and other GSHL teams.

  15. storm1 on November 8th, 2010 8:11 pm

Auburn….Any of your players going to show up at parties this week drunk and DQing them from the game again this year? Remember you need these young men to perform on and off the field!!!

Try to show up with an eligible Team so you don’t have 1 long night.

  16. weareone on November 9th, 2010 10:39 am

storm1 – don’t throw stones….Skyview is just smart enuf to not get caught. It should be a good game, if everyone comes prepared to play all 4 quarters.

  17. RockemSockem on November 9th, 2010 11:51 am

High School kids are going to party; that’s just one thing that the majority of them do on occasion. I don’t care what school they attend, or what conference they are affiliated with, they are still kids. As a parent, you just pray that your kids use good judgement and surround themselves with other kids that use good judgement.

I just hope both teams come ready to play and put on a great show for their fans and supporters.

  18. Auburn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on November 9th, 2010 2:15 pm

WE WILL GET OUR REVENGE ON SKYVIEW FROM LAST YEAR!
SKYVIEWS TEAM IS OVER RATED! PERIOD!
THEY GET WAY TO LUCKY YEAH I SAID IT!!!
THEY SHOULD HONESTLY BE A 500 TEAM. WITH THERE SLOW STARTS!
    ARE YOU SERIOUS?
YOU CLOWNS THINK SKYVIEW CAN JUST SHOW UP TO PLAY AGAINST US IN THE 2ND HALF??
LIKE I SAID THE SKYVIEW STORM IS IN FOR 1 WORLD CLASS WHOOPIN IF THEY DONT SHOW UP TO PLAY FROM THE MOMENT OF THAT FIRST SNAP!!
    good luck CLOWNS!

  19. Storm Swarm on November 9th, 2010 3:43 pm

Auburn!!!!!!! im gonna laugh when auburn doesnt show up to play and looses.

  20. Auburn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on November 9th, 2010 6:38 pm

    @Storm swarn
It seems as if you no nothing about Auburn my friend!
We always show up and we always go hard. On the other hand Skyview shows up BUT they show up LATE! Thats not going to work against us! Especially not againsty Curtis buddy!

  21. Stormparent44 on November 9th, 2010 7:14 pm

Auburn!!!!!!!!!!, This site is for people to discuss football and the strengths and weaknesses of the programs, not to berate and talk about revenge. I am sure that you have more intelligent things to say about your team than your last response. Here is one, last year when we met, you were 10-0, and dominated teams, this year you lost 2 games, as we have done. Why did you lose to Curtis by 4 touchdowns, are they that good or were you that bad? They have a very balanced attack, yours is run only. Any clever comments? Please provide?

  22. Uniongreen fan on November 9th, 2010 8:04 pm

Auburn!!!!!! (make sure you get the right amount of exclamation points) is pretty funny. Gotta admit. I want skyview to win, but he’s funny. Some people take stuff way too seriously in here.

  23. Storm from EWU on November 9th, 2010 11:27 pm

Showing up late may not work against Curtis, but at least we will get that chance next week. Seeing as how Auburn is definitely not going to win this week.

  24. Auburn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on November 10th, 2010 6:18 pm

    @storm parent
Skyview is overrated thats all i gotta say we will expose them!
you’ll see from the stands. Think about me when you see that score board with us winning by double digits. And your season dead and gone.

Got something to say?
