Union Almost Perfect In 45-0 Win Over Columbia River

Written by Bryan Levesque on October 2, 2009

The Union Titans did just about anything they wanted Friday night at McKenzie Stadium as they defeated the visiting Columbia River Chieftains 45-0.

Union got on the board first with a 27 yard FG from kicker Jed Barnett. They added a 1 yd TD run by Blake Russell to take a 10-0 lead at the end of 1. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Titans QB Brandon Weller found WR Mitch Saylor deep down the middle from 47 yards to push their lead to 17-0. That was a 1 play drive after River’s second punt of the game. Following yet another River punt, the Titans went 41 yards in only 4 plays as Russell ran in from 5 yards out for his second score and a 24-0 Union lead. Columbia River QB Neil Daly was picked off by Union DB Brandon Kent on the next drive, and one play later, Titans RB Nate Paneranda ran in from 17 yards out to push the lead out to 31-0. The following few minutes looked like deja vu as Kent again picked off Daly. Union appeared to score on the next play but they were called down at the 1. 2 plays later, RB Zak Browning walked in from 1 yard out to give Union a 38-0 lead. The second half started out about the same, after Columbia River punted, union went 57 yards in 2 plays as Penaranda scored his second rushing TD on the night from 36 yards out giving Union a 45-0 lead and starting the running clock rule. The rest of the game was a blur as the clock only stopped once at the end of the 3rd quarter. The entire game including halftime took only 1hr 47min.

With the win Union improves to 1-0 in league and 4-1 overall. The Titans will travel to Kiggins Bowl next Thursday to play Fort Vancouver (2-2)

After the loss, Columbia River falls to 0-1 in league and 1-4 overall. Columbia River will travel to Doc Harris Stadium Friday to face Camas (3-1)

    Sooooo…

Anyone not think Union is top dog?

  2. Titan Fan All The Way on October 3rd, 2009 12:48 pm

Probably the Camas Papermakers….but they don’t count. UNION is TOP DOG of GSHL Football.

  3. Camas Fan on October 3rd, 2009 2:01 pm

At least until they play Camas

  4. Titanpride on October 3rd, 2009 4:33 pm

Union is no doubt top dog even camas ain’t got anything on us!!!

  5. Storm Fan on October 3rd, 2009 5:00 pm

Union IS the top team in SW Washington no doubt about it. The Camas fans who say they can compete against Union are just fooling themselves. The only team in SW washington that came close is Skyview who by the way beat Camas. I wish you luck Camas but you will lose the game…

  6. camas Alumni on October 3rd, 2009 5:19 pm

a great person once said to be the best you have to beat the best and neither camas or union are the best cause they havent played each other yet ;) lol both teams are 4-1 and 2-0 in league and when playing each other its tied at one win each

  7. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 7:27 pm

Hey Camas…what does Union need to do to get your respect? They housed teams you’ve struggled with (‘cept Skyview – can’t dis-repsect them) They’re ranked WAY higher than you…how come you think your better? Y’all are just talkers, but the final score is what it’s all about. The Union Seniors remember that night 3 years ago when they were Soph’s & got the beat down. There is only like ….I dunno 20 of them that played that night. How many of y’all played then? Why all the talking? It’s supposed to be a good game, but on paper it’s just another blow out for the U! Bring your A game, Cam-town (I guess that’s your new name, I think it sounds kinda dumb)

  8. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 8:17 pm

…and both teams are only 1-0 in league, genius not 2-0. Union steps up to 4A next year, so this Camas ‘thing’ will just be another game on their schedule in future years. This is the year that everything matters, and it’s the wrong year for Cam-town (bleck) to make a bunch of un-backable statements here. You really need to start paying attention to what is happening, Camas Alumni because your a bit out-classed this year.

  9. camas Alumni on October 3rd, 2009 8:52 pm

first i do respect union there a great football team…. but blowout??? i dont think so but we will see when the time comes

  10. camas Alumni on October 3rd, 2009 8:53 pm

and cam-town is way better then onion lol

  11. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 9:09 pm

Calling them Onion is respectful? C’mon pal, who ya kidding? Dig real deep & show some class, you come off as kind of a goofball when you say things like that. Yeah, it’s a blowout on paper, but the game will be emotional, so I wont make that claim. Player for player, it’s no contest. Plus, like I said….they have like 20 players that played the whole game 3 years ago…Cam-town can’t match that experience. Plus, too many weapons. You shut down 42 (doubtful)& we hit you w/ the runaway beer truck that has #94 spray painted on it…and those are just 2 of the enhanced offensive players this year. Neither one of them were factors last year & they played in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP game. I haven’t EVEN mentioned 2 pre-season ALL STATE players; Saylor & Devin Myers,….dude, they return 5 of 6 offensive line, not for a 2nd year but for a THIRD. Good luck, ‘Cam-town’. Calling the U names probably wont slow them down much! Be reasonable, and stop the talking – NOW!

  12. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 9:20 pm

The Cam-town PLAYERS chanting ‘Go home Union’ as they came off the field against Heritage in week 1 is RESPECTFUL?! Union WAS home, genius’s! Union will be 10 times the team Cam-town is AND fired up out of their minds! Good luck, pal you just might need it!

  13. GSHL Supporter on October 3rd, 2009 9:25 pm

As a HHS fan, I was extremely impressed with Union. They were much more physical than we expected. Our boys worked extremely hard in the weightroom this season, but were still physically overmatched by a talented, determined, and dedicated group of young men. My son was so ashamed after that loss. He and his defensive mates made a vow to never be out-hit again. They still made a lot of mistakes against BG, but there is only one returning starter from last season’s defense. They were thrown into the fire this season. There is no one in the 4A GSHL that possesses 3 athletes on par with BG’s big 3. HHS didn’t give those guys much room to rumble. They seem to have learned that success comes from playing fast and out-hitting people. The effort level that Union played at on every snap showed them that and they carried it over to the BG game. The rest of the league better watch out.

  14. GSHL Supporter on October 3rd, 2009 9:27 pm

Of all players on the Union team, #94 [Taylor Nelson] was by far the most physically imposing and impressive.

  15. GSHL Daddy on October 3rd, 2009 9:30 pm

I agree. All the heritage kids could talk about was how Union played with so much effort! A good friend of mine is on staff, and all he could say was how humbled the dc and the players were after that game.

  16. camas Alumni on October 3rd, 2009 9:46 pm

wow you should really learn the facts before you say stuff the whole onion thing is an inside joke between the union players….. and congrats on union being ten times the team camas is for a couple seasons… because as soon as these seniors graduate there not gonna do to well and become another evergreen team that a few years later suck while camas is good every year they either win league or get 2nd and i pick that over one hit wonder any day

  17. camas Alumni on October 3rd, 2009 9:48 pm

and btw take some of ur own advice and show some class….. any classy person would of responded to my post in putting up union not putting down camas the way you did

  18. camas Alumni on October 3rd, 2009 9:52 pm

    CAM-TOWN WHAT!!!!!!!

  19. Wookie on October 3rd, 2009 9:55 pm

Camas cracks me up. Please don’t stop with your antics and your attitude. You and your fans offer great entertainment value for the entire GSHL

  20. Knute on October 3rd, 2009 10:00 pm

Knute is on sabbatical until the playoff’s, all of the children should be cleared out of here by then. For the record; Knute is against the use of ‘Cam-town’ – it’s childish & contrived. Not representitive of the inhabitants of the City of Camas, and may adversely affect my property value…if that is still possible.

  21. 40 on October 3rd, 2009 10:08 pm

I don’t see why you guys bash Camas Alumni for saying good things about the team he roots for. What do you guys expect, for him to come on here and say that there is no way Camas has a chance against Union? He does not come on here and bash kids from other teams, so lay off………And just sayin, the Camas Student Section was chanting that, not the players……..And please stop saying Cam-Town, it makes me want to barf.

  22. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 10:13 pm

Didn’t put ‘Cam-town’ down at all, pretty sure all I did was prop up Union by listing a few of MANY reasons why they are superior to ‘Cam-town’. If you want I can list like a couple dozen more… they’ve been built for THIS season. Their sights are set higher than ‘Cam-town’. They are focused on going back to the Dome, not just ANOTHER one & done appearance in the playoff’s. After this year is another question, but i’m living in the now not the was or the will… let THAT melt your mind a little HO! CAM-TOWN…huh?

  23. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 10:17 pm

because as soon as these seniors graduate there not gonna do to well and become another evergreen team that a few years later suck…really, 40? He doesn’t put down other teams? Looks to me like he took a swipe at 2 teams here

  24. Wookie on October 3rd, 2009 10:22 pm

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Camas cracks me up!

  25. 40 on October 3rd, 2009 10:35 pm

I said bash “kids” genius. I think you are so wound up about the whole situation you have a hard time being rational. Everyone on this board knows Union is good, but its ok for others to think there own teams are good as well. You seem to think its ok that Union fans come on here and say crap against Camas, but if it goes the other way, watch out, ‘just sayin’ will get his little feelings hurt. let THAT melt your mind a little HO! thats a stupid line ‘just sayin’

  26. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 10:36 pm

ive said it before and ill say it again im not gonna sit back and let camas take the heat and low blows, i can respect opinions but not the crap… the two “swipes” are my opinion and fact… its my opinion union is not be as good as they are now in the next couple years after there gonna go into a rebuilding phase as football coaches like to call it and evergreen is no where near as good as they have been in years past saying they suck was prob harsh but nice words leave the wrong impression…. im on here to support a team i played for and dish out crap that is dished at me

  27. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 10:39 pm

and the cam-town saying was started with my senior team it was more of a huddle thing at end or practices and before game thing

  28. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 10:42 pm

for those who say camas is not classy…. if you have ever been to a camas game you will notice that at the end of every game when they are huddled in the end zone around the coach… you will hear the players start yelling and saying a chant over and over again… that is a tradition started by Holman of showing the props to the other team and the players that played well for camas… no other team does that

  29. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 10:57 pm

Didn’t say anything low or cheap…I just stated facts. Show me ONE incorrectly stated FACT! “Cam-town” has a HUGE inferiority complex & they struggle at the thought that their is a team in this area who is better than them. Sorry, but the U is loaded and this is THEIR year!

Sorry, 40 nice try…the PLAYERS were chanting that to the Union players – first hand knowledge.

Union has been mum ALL year even though everyone knows their loaded, they don’t need to talk. They’ll just point to the scoreboard & walk away. But, all ‘Cam-town’ has done here is talk about the Union game – which is STILL a month away! Follow the trail here on this site, Union is top dog ‘until they play Camas’…that wasn’t said by a Union fan. What is that statement based on? Is it based on the fact that Cam-town returns something like 85% of their team on both sides of the line? A team that played in the State Championship game with a TON of underclassmen & only 7 Seniors on the whole team? Sorry, that was UNION who accomplished that and NOT ‘Cam-town. Yet, Cam-town offers zero respect Just keep talkin’ ‘Cam-town’, trust me…..we’re listening!

  30. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 11:05 pm

ur statements are more towards me like pointing out my mistake and saying genius and then telling me to dig deep and be classy…. really???

  31. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 11:10 pm

well, maybe you should consider my sound advice

  32. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 11:11 pm

maybe you should consider ur own

  33. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 11:23 pm

    nah, i’m good

  34. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 11:28 pm

and that just shows how classy you are… you seem to be all for union so why dont you be just as classy and let the players do the talking on the field (they point to the scoreboard and walk away) just walk away

  35. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 11:32 pm

    why don’t you?

  36. camas alumni on October 3rd, 2009 11:40 pm

because people like you talk crap and sitting there just letting it happen only works for so long…. and i said a while ago we will see when the time comes meaning when union plays camas but you just kept on talking and talking.. do the world a favor and shut up.. there is no place for people who want to bash other peoples opinions with ur ignorant comments

  37. Just Sayin' on October 3rd, 2009 11:54 pm

All of my comments were factually based, they were positive toward the team I support. They were in no way ‘ignorant’ as I follow the league very closely. You just want the last word – like always, & i’m not gonna let you have it. You are being petualant, and I can be just as petulant as you. Demonstrating absurdity by being absurd, and please…. you are not someone who is allowed to tell me to ‘shut up’!

  38. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 12:10 am

im not someone that is allowed to tell you to shut up?? then who is? well i already did and i think a lot of other people would agree with me….. i have no problem with ur factual based comments, its ur little 2 cent comments.. leave those to ur self… like when i said both teams were 2-0 you couldnt just say there 1-0 not 2-0 you had to make a scene and put me down then have the nerve to tell me to be classy

  39. Just Sayin' on October 4th, 2009 12:17 am

    oh, boo hoo…you big baby

  40. Wookie on October 4th, 2009 12:22 am

What a hoot Camas! The GSHL loves your humorous, way east county ways. Aren’t you a suburb of Washougal? Isn’t Doc Fishback your home field? Grrrrr…..

  41. HSFB on October 4th, 2009 12:22 am

Just a side note, to the Heritage guy. 2/3 of the “Big 3″ for BG were injured prior to the game. So I don’t know how much the D did to really stop the “Big 3″ as a unit. None the less, both teams played great. Heritage offense gets the props though.

  42. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 12:25 am

haha wow!!! just wow, real classy

  43. Just Sayin' on October 4th, 2009 12:31 am

Pretty sure I made my point here, you stay klassy, Kam-town!

  44. Wookie on October 4th, 2009 12:38 am

Wait! Camas, Isn’t one of your players named Fishback? Some dude that defected from the Prairie dogs? I hear Prairie is doing just fine this year. This sounds like a recruiting scandal. Oh my GOD! What is going on in this program? I’m sure this whole thing will blow up soon and the truth will come out.

  45. GSHL Fan on October 4th, 2009 12:48 am

Just responding to HSFB, please don’t make excuses for why Battle ground wasn’t 100%. John Simon, #5 and Jordan Malvo all Played and started. The score for Battle Ground should’ve been lower if the Heritage Defense would’ve capitalized on thos dropped interceptions.

  46. Wookie on October 4th, 2009 12:57 am

Camas, CSI calling. There is absolute proof that there is a boundary exception and recruiting violation regarding Fishback #2 on your team. The truth will come out and you will forfeit your games. Play on but know that you will suffer the consequences.

  47. Ketto on October 4th, 2009 3:15 am

Wookie, you’re a freaking clown. Seriously. Can you be more bitter towards a team? The kid’s last name is Fisher. The stadium is called Doc HARRIS.

    Recruiting proof? Seriously?

    Get off the internet.

  48. GSHL Dad on October 4th, 2009 9:12 am

You trash talkers need to go away. This could be a good blog without you.

  49. FootballRox on October 4th, 2009 9:41 am

My goodness… What have I done! I started a monster!

Anyway, I think this reninforces my previously posted point that Union and Camas are going to sweep through this weak 3A league and end up facing each other to decide who will be league champions.

The next question you should be asking yourselves, is who will fare better in the playoffs?

    *cough*Union*cough*

  50. D hi Drated on October 4th, 2009 9:42 am

Caleb M icheal Piland CAN ENJOY one last year of being good. Next year in 4a with the talent he has coming up he would be lucky to be getting free appetizers at Mcmenamins after big losses.

  51. Fact Finder on October 4th, 2009 10:42 am

Union is the best 4A school playing in the 3A classification for the second year in a row. With their enrollment being over the 1280 mark for the second year they have an advantage in the talent pool in all sports across the board. You cannot fault the kids as they did not choose to stay down a classification in 2008. That would be the ESD and the Union AD. In 2010 the classifications will again be redone and Union will go up to 4A. either way they will still have a big talent pool to pull from but when they playoffs come around they will be matched with closer schools. VSD shows that CR has 1025 students this year as the Evergreen School District has Union at 1383. A 300 student advantage is great for any sport as you should be able to have 30 more above average players in that pool and 30 players is only 10% of the extra pool. Union has talented kids, Camas has talented kids and neither one recruits. If you want to see some schools that recruit you should look into the private schools around the country, De La Salle of CA. Santa Ana Mater Dei of CA. Jesuit of Portland. true those kids still have to carry the grades to attend those schools but when you can get the best 5% in each sport it helps. but then again we are talking about High School sports where only 3% of the kids playing the sport will go on to the next level to play. so lets cheer those kids on because for most of them these are their final years of ever playing.

  52. Fan of the U on October 4th, 2009 1:10 pm

All this silly trash talking means nothing. What happens on the field on October 30th will tell the story. If Union stays healthy and doesn’t make mistakes they have the ability to run the table and go deep into the playoffs. Their Defense is getting better and they have many weapons offensively to draw upon.
Camas Alumni – I believe you need to change your name to Camas GED because you continually flex your ignorance on here.
Support your team and dissect the games – but quit whining about people picking on you and your alleged school. It seems very cowardly and it takes away from the real fans on this site.

    To FootballRox——you’re hilarious!

For all others—October 30th will be a very exciting game! In the meantime it is wise that the Union Titans are playing one game at a time and staying focused on the weekly game and NOT the last game of the season. Union is respected and rightly so.

  55. Eowyn on October 4th, 2009 3:58 pm

THANK YOU Fan of the U! SO SICK AND TIRED of the BS on this blog!!! Wish Camas Alumni could be blocked from ever contributing again! Really want to see discussions about the GAMES and the TEAMS and the PLAYERS, not your stupid EGOS!

The Union game against River was a snoozer. And over really FAST! I don’t know what is going to happen the rest of the season, since I don’t have the crystal ball the rest of you seem to have, but I sure hope there is some more excitement, like in the Skyview-Union game. I love football when its a gritty fight, not a massacre.

    Go Union!

  56. U Fan on October 4th, 2009 4:12 pm

Camas Alumni, you must be blind! Yep, we’re losing a lot of seniors this year at Union but have you seen our JV team? Have you seen some of the sophomores we have??? Union isn’t going anywhere and the talent we have coming up is incredible!!!

  57. HSFB on October 4th, 2009 4:40 pm

I could say the same thing to you about not making excuses with this statement, “The score for Battle Ground should’ve been lower if the Heritage Defense would’ve capitalized on thos dropped interceptions.” Very hypocritical of you GSHL. I was simply correcting GSHL supporter when he said that Heritage contained BG’s 3 athletes. Being as how only one of the three played the entire game on offense due to injuries. John Simon only came in once Jordan Malvo was injured. Both were hurt prior to the game. Those are facts not based on “what ifs”. I’m not saying BG would have won the game, who can say what would happen. All I am saying is that BG did not have their Big 3 there to be contained. Heritage won. End of story. Union is the best team in the GSHL without a doubt. Go Union!

  58. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 5:44 pm

  59. Wookie on October 4th, 2009 6:01 pm

Grrrrrr……..I love the gritty Camas folk and I love the way your team competes. The Union boys always look forward to lining up against you. I agree with U Fan that Union has the young talent to be better than they are today. I am so looking forward to watching those games too. Roll “U”! Seems that Union has had to weather personal attacks on players and coaches, false accusations of cheating and recruiting violations, vandalism from opposing teams, and general BS for several years now. I’m sure the Camas faithful can deal with this too. Don’t quagmire in yourself too much. Support your team and we’ll see you down the road at your place. What is the name of your stadium, Fishhead or Doc Hairless? You guys need to be less serious and more relaxed. Sometimes you remind me of the largemouth bass in Lacamas lake, easily hooked on power bait.

  60. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 6:11 pm

hope you dont eat that fish lol

  61. Knute on October 4th, 2009 6:12 pm

Ok, let’s test your resolve on your rather bold statement. Let’s just say that by some miracle Union somehow manages to eke out a victory against Camas. I know…i’m crazy, but just humor me for a minute. If Union does win this game. How about you agree to never post on this site again? OR if you not agreeable to that, then how about you agree to change your name to what someone suggested earlier – Camas GED? I’ll even match you with If Union loses I will agree to do the same…never post, or change my name to ‘Colossal idiot’? Is it a deal?

  62. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 6:22 pm

hahaha and whats to stop me from creating a different name and continue posting?? nothing so that is just a stupid offer

  63. Knute on October 4th, 2009 6:30 pm

ok, then the deal is for Camas GED vs Colossal Idiot… wager officially on!

  66. insidesports on October 4th, 2009 6:51 pm

It is hysterical to read these child like posts about GSHL football especially Camas and Union. Both teams have solid coaches and some great players on both sides of the football. Remember the game has to be played on the field and if some key injuries happen to come up then what does that do to your team. Why don’t you just sit back…act you ages….and just enjoy and support your team instead of embarrassing yourselves with stupid posts. Let’s all enjoy these posts. Oh yea…I like Union by 7 on Oct. 30th. Just sayin……NUFF SAID!

  67. Camas 2012 on October 4th, 2009 7:17 pm

Yeah, it’s amazing how bad of a reputation a student body of 1700 gets when one person who used to go to a school with the same name gets on the Internet and starts speaking his mind.

  68. FootballRox on October 4th, 2009 7:17 pm

Great, now Camas and Union are going to have injuries, way to jinx it insidesports. Now I have to counter-jinx it with a jinx of my own.

Union and Camas are going to be TOTALLY injured. Stretchers and crutches up and down the sidelines. Its going to be terrible. /unjinxed.

I wonder if anyone is going to totally miss what I was doing and write a paragraph just tearing me a new one.

I have something i’d like to say that is more on topic. I think we can all agree that Camas and Union are A. Going to dominate this league so then conversely B. they are both going to the playoffs.

Here is the part where I think it gets interesting. If any of you have bothered to take a look at the playoff brackets (like a true fan would :P ) then you would notice that District 4 (That’s us) #2 plays against District 2 (Kingco… perhaps you see where I am going with this) #1. And its looking like right now that Kingco #1 is going to end up being those good ol Wolverines from up North.

So play hard in the Camas v. Union game boys! Because if you lose you will probably face your toughest opponent in the first round.

I bet this will ease any pressure they might have about the game

  69. Wookie on October 4th, 2009 8:41 pm

Doc Fishhead or Doc Hairless? I mean, I can’t even google this. This is somewhere in Clark County, right?

  70. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 9:29 pm

its called doc harris and there are signs all over camas

  71. greater saint on October 4th, 2009 9:32 pm

its definitely coming down to Camas vs Union and i think skyview has got it wrapped up they just need to coast… i personally am pulling for camas in that league title game so go papermakers keep up the good work and leave nothing on the field against union

  72. camas Alumni on October 4th, 2009 9:55 pm

    btw fishback is washougals stadium

  73. Camas Alumni 2 on October 4th, 2009 11:14 pm

Camas Alumni they know Fishback is in Washougal there just screwing with you. DUH!!! As much as I want Camas to beat Union it’s going to be a up hill battle. But that’s what great about High School and College football anything can happen.

  74. franklyspeaking on October 5th, 2009 5:02 pm

    Just Saying’
Your right they did not stop #42 (Penaranda) because he did not play a down last year in the camas game he had a broken arm or leg.
Your right too many weapons as another person said last week
Union has no stat leaders in any category ZERO!! Nada that’s balance
I would love to see #42 unleashed just one time for 20 carries to see what kind of damage he can create.
On that point I will not go to anymore Union games until they meet Camas it just to dam boring to watch.
The game at the end of the month will be fun especially with emotions so high.
Battle ground is fun to watch see you there.

  75. camas alumni on October 5th, 2009 7:16 pm

i hope the union vs camas game is close and high scoring.. last year union won 26-21 thats a good game but its more entertaining for the audience if its high scoring just saying it would be really nice… i really think either union is gonna dominate and win by multiple TD’s or camas is gonna pull off a close win

  76. Just Sayin' on October 5th, 2009 7:27 pm

I think you may have misunderstood what I said…I meant to say that if anyone shuts down #42, they still have multiple other threats to worry about. My point was that 42 wasn’t as big a factor last year as this year because he was hurt. #94 played tackle last year, so both of these players are relatively new to the offense this year. Without those two enormous threats, that offense will still good enough to make it to the State Championship game with practically that entire squad returning this year. So, this year’s offense is enhanced with the presence of these 2 ‘new’ additions. Plus, 42 did play in last year’s Camas game, he just couldn’t crack back into the starting line up because 38 (28 this year) was so effective & 21 blossomed into a more than adequate fullback. They almost have too many offensive threats. I haven’t even mentioned last year’s offensive player of the year, or the line, or the 3 year starter @ qb…or…well, I think everyone gets my point, the band plays Rocky Top A LOT!

  77. scuba steve on October 6th, 2009 8:50 am

union is waiting until the camas game to unleash their new jerseys. (red)

  78. Football Player on October 6th, 2009 1:20 pm

Scuba Steve where did you get your info from I’ve never heard that Union had any new jerseys.

  79. camas alumni on October 6th, 2009 3:43 pm

i dont think union would already get new jerseys this is only their 3rd year

  80. Football Player on October 6th, 2009 5:38 pm

Red isn’t one of Unions main colors and the Union players like their all white jerseys anyways.

  81. 30 package o' ketchup on October 6th, 2009 6:46 pm

Word is Union is trying guys out at different positions this week to keep themselves entertained.

  82. FootballRox on October 6th, 2009 8:26 pm

If you look at the way the Union Jerseys are set up, red jersey’s would look weird. Unless they go all out with some sort of different design scheme it would look stupid.

I do think it would be cool to have a “playoff” jersey.

  83. FranklySpeaking2 on October 6th, 2009 10:22 pm

just sayin’ I just completed watching the 08 union camas highlights and 42 (penaranda) did not play a single down. Like franklyspeaking stated earlier he broke either his leg or arm and was unable to participate. Otherwise I have reasons to believe one of the best atheltes in the GSHL might have at least taken one or two snaps. I suggest you get your facts straight. Also, people have been underestimating Camas all year long. They will definetely have a chance against union. You make it seem like the game is already over…well, thats why they’re going to play it.

P.S. does anyone have info on Union wearing red uniforms in weeks to come?

  84. camas alumni on October 7th, 2009 9:58 am

there is no info on the red uniforms… scuba steve is the only person who thinks there is gonna be new uniforms…everyone else who posted is skeptic

  85. Just Sayin' on October 7th, 2009 1:12 pm

The kid played, what you saw were ‘highlights’ is it possible he just wasn’t in any of the highlights? it was something of a mystery as to why he didn’t get more P.T. last year. Thought I had explained that earlier so, I suggest back to you that I did have my facts straight. Love your facts, though…it was his arm or his leg…or something. (high ankle sprain & he was back week 3)

Also, I just laid out the reasons why Union has a great team. I never guaranteed a win over Camas or said they don’t have a shot. No one has underestimated Camas all year, they’re a very good team & I would say that they have everyone’s respect

  86. camas alumni on October 7th, 2009 1:51 pm

if anybody has any chance to beat union its camas id love to see another union vs skyview game if they score before the 4th quarter… even though camas lost to skyview(barely) i think they have the best chance to give a union a run… btw if anybody has taken a look at the brackets loser faces bellevue in the first round after cross over and winner gets a few easy games but will face lakes later on in the bracket.. who could possibly be better then bellevue

  87. greater saint on October 7th, 2009 4:57 pm

i agree with you CA, camas does have the best chance and a rematch of U vs storm would be awesome!!! too bad it will have to wait till next year

  88. FootballRox on October 7th, 2009 5:20 pm

All I have to say is this:

Union 56-Heritage 13 (And one of those touchdowns were scored against a Union 2nd String D)

    Camas 42-Heritage 27

    The numbers speak for themselves.

  89. 30 package o' ketchup on October 7th, 2009 6:06 pm

I know someone on the Union football team and have seen the red jerseys and let me tell ya they are shnazzy. I cant wait for thier debut on the 30th, it’s really gonna add some flare to Union winning the league championship!

  90. LT on October 7th, 2009 6:17 pm

i go to union.. i play football.. varsity since sophomore year.. the rumors of red jerseys are exactly that… RUMORS. some of us have lobbied for more red on our unis, but coaches dont want them. cuz red is just an accent color for us…

  91. Snaggletooth on October 7th, 2009 9:23 pm

Camas alumni, you are a glutton for punishment. Your team battles hard butt they are lacking in talent and post season experience. It is the hope of the GSHL that they can rise above mediocrity and make a name for Cam-Town. Washougal is claiming dominance over you this year. How do you plan to compete against Bellevue in the early round of the playoffs?

  92. greater saint on October 7th, 2009 11:21 pm

that funny (snaggletooth) u say that like union has already won

  93. scuba steve on October 8th, 2009 12:35 pm

the red jerseys are the real deal. they were paid for by the booster club this summer and will be used throughout the playoffs.

  94. NoCal Homer on October 8th, 2009 1:28 pm

Settle down CAMAS you have a good team but you are over stating the importance of a game that is still (what?) four wks away???

NO ONE on this site should ever sling rocks at the “recruitment” issue…there’s players at every school out of boundry. If their parent and the student desire a different enviroment, regardless of reason, as tax payers they should be allowed to do so!

    union
    heritage
    mountain view
    camas
    prarie
    mark morris
    RA Long
    ridgefield
    skyview

Good Luck to all the GSHL teams this week

  95. knutefan on October 8th, 2009 1:45 pm

i agree, i attend union, so obviously im a fan of union and i want to beat camas, but after this year when i graduate and this years senior class is gone, our sports are going down the drain, no more talent. our talent pool will be dried up, especially the football team. Ive been around the guys on the football team ever since i was little, ive known most if not all of them since 6th grade and they have always been together on the field, and after that team unity is gone, our victorys are gone. nuff said

  96. waterman on October 8th, 2009 3:10 pm

i’ve seen the red jerseys and let me tell you, there unlike anything i’ve seen before. I can’t wait to see everyones reaction to them come oct. 30th

Got something to say?
