Union Pulls Away Late In 31-7 Win At Columbia River

Written by Bryan Levesque on October 3, 2008

The Union Titans came into Friday nights game at Columbia River 4-0 and ranked #4 in state.

The Chieftains, trailing 17-7 in the forth quarter give up two late touchdowns to the undefeated Titans to spoil their Homecoming with the 31-7 loss.

Union marched right down the field on their first possession and scored a rushing touchdown by Blake Russell to take the 7-0 lead.

Columbia River going for a forth and 10 QB Mike Ortegon connected with WR Wyatt Brinkman, who then fumbled. The fumble was picked up by teammate Theisen Chang who ran it in for the score to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter.

Union completed a 32 yard pass from Brandon Weller to Tyler Coad with 4 seconds left in the half to take the 14-7 halftime lead.

Union added a filed goal in the third to push the lead to 17-7.

After punting on a 4th and 50, Union pinned the Chieftains inside their 10 yard line. After Union’s two late scores the 31-7 score is a bit misleading to how close this game was.

Union hosts Fort Vancouver (2-3 1-0) on Thursday at McKenzie Stadium next week, while River has another home game, hosting Camas (4-1 1-0).
