Union Titans QB Brandon Weller Highlight Video On Vimeo

Written by on March 3, 2009

Union Titans QB Brandon Weller uploaded a highlight video of his 2008 season on Vimeo. It is pretty good footage and was edited nicely. I have embedded the video below. Please note, this video was not produced by www.gshlfootball.com but by Brandon Weller himself.

Mr. Weller may be more impressive with his escapability, mobility and overall running ability than with his his throwing ability. There are many QB’s out there that are all about stats but the reality is winning games is the real key. Congrats to Brandon on a great season and being a “team” guy. Loved the video!!

PS…just a thought….Had Union had a pocket passer type of QB then maybe they don’t get all the way to state championship. Things happen for a reason….. :)

  2. Football Fan on March 4th, 2009 10:44 pm

Brandon Weller is a very average QB on a very good team. He will likely not be playing QB at the next level.

  3. GSHL Football Fan on March 5th, 2009 9:48 am

Football Fan you may be right about Brandon not playing at the next level as a QB but maybe he could play division III as a possession receiver or even a defensive back. The kid has some serious lateral skills as well as a good quick initial burst of speed for his first 3 or 4 steps. Also how many HS QB’s can say they played in the state championship?? What’s the percentage there? Regardless he has already accomplished quite a bit as a high school athlete. Also he hasn’t even played his senior season yet?

3:50 Brandon Weller gets rocked!! Moore to come nextt year when he plays camas at doc harris

  5. j on March 5th, 2009 6:04 pm

ya the important thing is he gets back up though. thats the most important thing to being a leader is forgeting the past and focusing on the future. obviously he lead his team to a state championship so i think he has that down.

    ps.. he completed the pass

Great video! Great Passes! And Great Runs! That’s one very smart and physically gifted quarterback. This video brings back so many memories of that unbelievable season. Brandon , you and all of your teammates and coaches, should be very proud of yourselves. For everyone to come together and jell as quick as you did, and accomplish what you did. That’s very impressive! All of Clark county is very proud of you and the whole Union Football Team. I can hardly wait until next season.

  8. Camas Fan on March 13th, 2009 2:21 pm

Keep trying. Maybe your senior year you can be half as good as Logan Grindy was his sophomore year.

  9. College Scout on March 19th, 2009 1:12 pm

Brandon Weller is a solid player and the Grindy kid is on the rise. However hands down the QB in SW. Washington is Grayson. He is the best the are has seen and will be one of the best the state has ever seen.

  10. Camas Fan on March 21st, 2009 6:21 am

Grayson is great, and I don’t know how many Camas games you saw, but if you saw a highlight video of Grindy, you would agree with me.

  11. Pro Scout on March 21st, 2009 1:41 pm

Both Grayson and Grindy are great quarterbacks and look very nice throwing the ball. But when you look for the heart of a champion you have to give it to Weller. He has no fear, He will run between the tackles, and take on defenders to get that extra yardage. That type of player wins games. And wins alot. Both Heritage and Camas never beat a team with a winning record. Just win Baby…

  12. College Scout on March 21st, 2009 9:21 pm

Weller will be serving hamburgers to Grayson and Grindy when they return each summer from College. Let us not forget Grayson ran for 500 plus yards last year on only 40 carries to go with 3,000 plus yards all in 10 games. He has more determination and heart in his left calf then Weller has in his body.

  13. Camas Fan on March 21st, 2009 10:12 pm

All I can say to that is “stay tuned” because there is a lot more to come. Grindy really didn’t have to run much because Eagle’s offense doesn’t have any designed QB running plays. When you have a QB like Grindy who does his reads well and is a pinpoint passer, there isn’t much opportunity to run, but he is arguably the fastest guy on the team, and he only runs if it breaks down, but when he gets loose nobody will run him down.

  14. BIG GSHL FAN on March 23rd, 2009 11:48 am

Just curious how many play-off games combined both Grayson and Grindy have won in their HS careers? One total? Grayson while a very polished QB is talented and a great athlete BUT is a product of his offense. Similar to college programs like Texas Tech. Why can’t Heriatge beat teams like Woodinville (Play-offs), Evergreen or even Union if Grayson is the best QB in the area? Please explain this when he had great receivers and a stud RB in the 2007 & 2008 seasons. Grindy may be on the rise but what has he done? Weller took his team to the state championship and w/o him they never get there. Until Grayson and Grindy can either beat Union on the field or make ANY sort of a play off run then this issue is dead. Ask Grayson or Grindy if they would either like to throw for 3,000 plus yards every year or play in the state championship? What do you think they would say? You KNOW the answer “College Scout” and “Camas Fan”…now stop being idiots and think before you open you mouth. They would trade all that to be in the Tacoma Dome in December and you know it PAL!!!

  15. COLLEGE SCOUT on March 24th, 2009 1:25 pm

Grayson and Company did beat Evergreen and he did Torch Union for over 320 yards. Guess we should ask for more since the entire team was dealing with what I heard was an assistant coaches death that weds. before the game. I am sure Grayson will smoke Union this year as well as Grindy. The bottom line is all Weller will have is a “great” high school career. Millions of people will have that their entire life. Grayson will finish in the top 5 statistically in the state for passing in every major catergory and will have an excellent college career. Something Weller wont have as he lounges around his apartment at age 23 in his Letterman jacket talking about the dome. Grayson isnt the entire team, nor is Weller. So you cant blame or congratulate wins or losses come playoffs because of one player. Last time I checked, it wasnt Weller who blocked the field goal vs Ferndale.

  16. Camas Fan on March 24th, 2009 2:33 pm

Grindy threw for 240 yards against Union’s two 1st team all-league db’s. Just remember, 6 GSHL 3A coaches didn’t think Weller was even the best QB is his own league. Grindy was 1st team and tore up the Camas record books, just like he will do the next 2 years.

  17. gshl parent on March 24th, 2009 8:26 pm

If Weller threw 30+ times a game im sure he would have those kind of numbers as well. If i remember correctly, Weller was first-team all league his sophomore season as well.. Back when he was throwing the ball more than union was running it with a unexperianced line. And take this into account, Grayson is a good quarterback, but what really defines being a great quarterback? Finding ways to win games or putting up 300 yards with 40 attempts? You might want to check his TD/INT ratio.. i think they were both around 17.. while Weller threw for more td’s, less Int’s and less attempts. Not to mention the whole 13 games he won..

  18. COLLEGE SCOUT on March 25th, 2009 6:32 am

If my stats are correct Grayson completed 68% percent of his passes as a junior and 71% as a sophomore. Thats well above the typical average of 60% for high school qb’s. Lets face the facts, Grayson is a far more superior athlete then Weller. Grayson has thrown for 44 td’s and 18 int in 2 years, with over 6500 yards, Weller wont even be close after next season. You seem to be determining Weller is so great because Union went far in the playoffs. Well it just goes to show that you are putting the “I” in team and saying without the “great” Weller Union would of been 5-4. By the way when Grayson does put up 30-40 attempts he completestypically 22-27 attempts, I would say thats not too shabby. Doubt Weller could touch that time after time much less have over 15 plus 300 yard games in a career. With 4 of them over 400 yards all in a winning effort. Weller is a scrambler who loves top throw the wounded Duck to Saylor who pads the yards when he comes down with 1 out of every 4 balls thrown to him.

  19. Taft High on March 25th, 2009 6:36 am

THE “13 GAMES HE WON”…wow funny reading comments from Wellers family. I guess USC and Notre Dame will be at his door step because he single handidly won 13 games. Well wherever he goes some college program will be super happy. They will get 52 wins out of him in 4 years with no losses. Too bad that wont happen. He wouldnt make Willamettes Scout Team

  20. gshl parent on March 25th, 2009 7:44 am

im not here saying that weller is the best quarterback ever. im also not saying he won all those games himself.. but i am saying that he made smart decisions and helped lead his team to the state finals.. quarterbacks can be great for many different reasons and i think this league is blessed with quite a few of them. i also think that people are too quick to throw out insults when this video was made to appreciate how well he did this season.. just some things to think about.

  21. Camas Fan on March 25th, 2009 9:25 am

I wonder if Piland has tried to recruit either of the “G” quarterbacks

  22. Skyview Fan on March 25th, 2009 2:44 pm

Let’s not forget Austin Dodge at Skyview. Skyview did better in 2008 then either Camas or Heritage. With Ian Zarosinski back at WR and Matt Spears back at RB Skyview will walk away with the 4A title again in ’09 (and this year outright) and there will NOT be a home play-off loss!

  23. Lendale White on March 25th, 2009 8:41 pm

Aside from being a WINNER, another thing that sets Weller apart from both Grindy and Grayson is his toughness. He has taken many shots throughout his career, but he always pops right up. The kid has guts.
While were on the guts subject, what is up with both Grayson and Grindy sliding against Union? Come on now this is high school football, you should to at least TRY to finish the run.

  24. Camas Fan on March 25th, 2009 8:53 pm

Grindy was sliding because he played the entire 4th quarter with a separated throwing shoulder. Now tell me who’s tough.

  25. me on March 26th, 2009 8:41 am

why is everyone bashing weller?? you dont see him on here defending himself, its a sign of weakness to come on here and talk yourself up!! so grindy is weak and will not be going to college for football, grayson on the other hand will, i have a lot of respect for him, and none for grindy. because all grindy and his friends do is sit on here and try and convince themselves they will beat union when they know deep down they wont.

  26. me on March 26th, 2009 8:44 am

and i like how you’re trying to say saylor isnt any good. i mean… after all, he was an all state wide reciever. he didnt get that for dropping 1 out of 4 passes,

  27. Camas Fan on March 26th, 2009 9:09 am

I don’t see Grayson or Grindy on here defending themselves either. They are all good athletes. They are all tough, and nobody knows what is going to happen with any of them.

  28. HAIL MARY on March 26th, 2009 10:26 am

I think the comment on Weller throwing 4 deep passes to Saylor with 1 out of 4 being caught is refering to the fact Weller throws a bad deep ball often and is very innacurate getting it to his receivers. No knock on Saylor, just Weller should be thankful he once in a while will go up to get what was described as a “wounded duck.” Union had a great season, enough said. A new season is coming and lets move on. There is no way Union will duplicate last years success. So for all the Weller well wishers, if they go 4-5 be sure to credit that to the great WELLER.

  29. High school football fan on March 26th, 2009 7:54 pm

The comment that union can’t duplicate last years success and that they could go 4-5 is total bogus. They have 8 returners on offense and 5 on deffense. Brandon Weller is a great QB, but even if he doesn’t play well it’s not like all they did was throw last year. Through the regular season they ran the ball at will and through all the playoffs they ran the ball almost every play with success and with the quadruple run threat of Nathaniel Penaranda, Blake Russle, Zak Browning and Brandon Weller coming back next year there is no team in clark county that can stop them.

  30. High school football fan on March 26th, 2009 8:02 pm

Oh and 4 returning o-linemen (including 3 1st team all-league, 2 being all region) doesn’t hurt their run game.

  31. ridiculous on March 27th, 2009 7:41 am

Man, we get it. Union is good. They’ll probably win league for 3A. Brandon Weller is a good little qb regardless to Grayson and Grindy. He’s undersized and probably won’t go to any big college like Grayson will. Of all people, believe me, I do not like Union or the origin of Union or anything about Union but they won a lot of football games last season. They will be a very good team again next year but everyone seems to be counting the rest of their schedule out. I think that now Union has a bullseye on their backs and chest because of their success. As a player for another GSHL team, believe me, Union will not walk all over every team they play and if they think that they will then they will be in for a rough season. But isn’t this what Union and coach Piland wanted? Didn’t they want to be the premier team in SW Washington? Well they have the big stage now and every team in this area will be gunning for them and playing their best football against them. I hope that Union is ready because they haven’t made many friends on the way to the top. And neither has Piland, by any means. I congratulate Union on their great season and hopefully they have one again next year but I could not be more critical of the way they got themselves to where they are. Someday all of the information and details of the soap opera that is Union High School and people are going to look down on them. Enough said.

  32. bob on March 27th, 2009 7:59 am

What people think they know about union is crazy.

  33. high school football fan on March 27th, 2009 10:37 am

What did union do that’s making everyone so mad about their success? I’ll tell you what, nothing. People are just mad that they went undefeated in league and all the way to the state championship all in their 2nd year of existance. Something that no other team in their league has ever done in their entire history.

  34. no on March 27th, 2009 11:16 am

yeah you’re totally right, I’m probably just jealous. Too bad all of Union’s crap directly impacted my school and football program… in an extremely negative way. I know exactly what happened behind the scenes and I know a lot of things about Union that most people don’t know. So please don’t act like you know more about the situation than I do cause you don’t.

  39. Knute on March 27th, 2009 11:03 pm

I can’t understand how anyone can say negative things about Brandon Weller. I have watched him play as a sophomore, being protected by a bunch of other sophomores. I’ve seen him take some serious pops & he always hops right back up. He has always demonstrated tremendous leadership & poise. He was at the helm for Union’s awesome run to the state championship game last year & there is every reason to believe that their best days are still ahead of him. Brandon has set the tone for the entire team & there is no way they are where they are without his gutsy & intelligent play.

  40. Camas Fan on March 29th, 2009 6:09 am

It would be easier to focus on our own schools if Piland wasn’t out trying to recruit everyone’s players.

  41. high school football fan on March 29th, 2009 11:41 am

Piland doesn’t try to recruit anyone. The players that switch over do it because they know that Union is the best team in SW Washington.

  47. Observer on March 31st, 2009 9:57 am

Well Football Fan that’s all well and good but I got evidence to disprove your claims and the claims of many others that Union did any recruiting and the players came here on their own accord. But since its not my story to tell, I won’t tell it. But that in no way makes me wrong or brings to question whether or not I have evidence.

    See what I did there?

  48. George Suzuki on April 2nd, 2009 9:26 pm

As a parent of of a union athlete, football and basketball, what about all the hard work both in the weight room and on the practice field. I watched a lot of these boys all through ccyf and other sports leagues and the dedication and off season work has a lot to with success. Success should not breed envy. What about the basketball team, what a season, and no one is talking about those boys being recruited? Union will have a tough season just as any champion does they know they will get eveyones best shot.

    Everybody just be nice

  50. Eowyn on April 3rd, 2009 3:48 pm

Wow, I haven’t been here for awhile, but dropped in today to see what was happening. It’s really sad to see how much negativity is going on here. Why? What is everyone so angry about? I mean, seriously, this is high school football we’re talking about here. It’s not like, I don’t know, Darfur or anything. Let’s face it, at the end of the day, the vast majority of these boys will NOT go on to play ball ANYWHERE after high school and NONE of this stuff really matters to the overall life experience. Union is a great school, with great school spirit, and coaches who are VERY good at what they do. I like the basketball comment. I’d like to add a few: Girls Soccer, Volleyball, the Dance Team, and how about the Titan Wrestlers? They went undeafeated the entire season with a team that was over 50% freshman. They made 2nd in Regionals and placed 12th overall at State, with 6 wrestlers placing. No recruting here, just good luck, hard work, and dedicated coaching. Union just happens to be in a good position, with the right feeder schools, and more importantly, ENORMOUS parent and community support. I went to a small-town high school and Hudson’s Bay and let me tell you, the support at Union is just like being in a little town. All of you who are on here, bashing Union, Weller, and Piland, are really doing an injustice to yourself, the football community, and especially to all the kids who proudly call themselves a Titan. I know it’s hard, but really….just let it go.

  51. Joe Rhea on April 4th, 2009 10:05 am

Wow, well all I wanted to say was that Brandon has a good highlight film.
I’m a Heritage Football player and will be linebacker for us and just wanted to say
congrats on union’s season. I’m really not quite sure why there is so much controversy going about this “evidence” stuff. Union did a great job and really put the SW Washington schools on the map.

ok, ive got it, union is recruting. i have all the evidence. i will put it in the lines below…

oh wait, there is nothing. no one has any reason to say union is recruiting. and if they are… who is it??

  57. football101 on April 15th, 2009 1:04 pm

Weller is a very average quarterback with a great team behind him and union does not recruit, evergreen school district just has a very easy way for players to get around their school’s boundaries, the d 1 gshl recruits for 2010 will be Mitch Saylor, Taylor Nelson, Hayden Lucia, and Garret Grayson, weller will have a good shot to play at a school like Linfield.

  58. Jason Taylor on April 15th, 2009 8:47 pm

I’m pretty sure that was Doug Flutie status…

  59. college scout on April 17th, 2009 9:40 am

D 1 recruits will be Grayson for athletic ability, size, quickness, and that he produces. Same goes for Saylor. Weller is a perfect Linfield or Willamette kid.
Lucia and Nelson are still undersized for their positions and lack true speed. Western Oregon best fit. Wouldnt play at Central for 3 or more years.

  60. high school football fan on April 18th, 2009 4:42 pm

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. How can you say Nelson is undersized at 6′ 2″ 225 pounds? He’s bigger than some D1 players right now and still has a year to go. And as for the “lack true speed” comment, he runs a sub 4.8 40.

  61. 40 on April 18th, 2009 7:37 pm

In regards to Nelson, I think a lack of D1 quickness is more accurate then saying he lacks “true speed”

  62. College Scout on April 19th, 2009 6:48 pm

Nelson checks in at 6foot even and teeters around 215 according to the notes gathered from the last combine he attended. His 40 time was 4.91. Not great for D-1 level. He needs a 4.6 just to play second team. He fills the hole nicely, but lacks speed to play pass coverage on the slot receiver and often on play action he “steps in the bucket” takes a false step which is a big no-no when being evaluated. Sure with work it can be fixed but he lacks that speed to make up for poor footwork.

  63. high school football fan on April 19th, 2009 7:05 pm

Ha ha. And you know this because you’ve measured, weighed and timed him yourself? What do you think that since you call yourself “college scout” people are going think that you know what you’re talking about? Have you ever even seen the guy? I see Taylor Nelson everyday and he is a legit 6′ 2″. We weigh ourselves every week in our lifting class and he does weigh 225. The dude is flat out huge.

  64. College Scout on April 20th, 2009 7:26 am

Take the shoes off buddy and he stands a little over 6′. When was the last time the weight room scale was calibrated. Get him down to his skivvies and he comes in at 217. When he tested and was measured last time this was his stats. I have seen him in person and on film. Regardless if he is 7 foot 300 lbs or 5′ 5″ 155 lbs the kid will not go d-1. He may walk on d-1aa but he fits better at the D-II level.

  65. Pro Scout on April 20th, 2009 1:47 pm

To College Scout- Question: What does it mean when everyone says you are an idiot and don’t know what your talking about? Answer: It means you’re an idiot and you don’t know what your talking about. This is not a good way to through life. You really should think and have some facts before you speak up. Better yet, in your case, don’t speak at all.

  66. high school football fan on April 20th, 2009 5:35 pm

College scout, it makes me laugh how you come and type untrue crap on here like you’re really some college scout and you know what you’re talking about when you’re really probably just some high school kid jealous of nelson’s and union’s success. I can’t wait until next season when union dominates your school again just like last year.

  67. College Scout on April 20th, 2009 7:30 pm

Dont think Nelson or Union will dominate my school next year because he doesent play Division 1 ball, and he never will. Never came on here to knock Nelson but simply speak the truth. Unfortunately all of his friends and adults that support U nion come to the rescue. Question is what will you do when he isnt on a division 1 roster next year. Ohh thats right, you will say he got screwed when in reality he cant play at that level. Put that on your bulletin board or in your pipe and smoke it.

  68. Bellevue Big Daddy on April 20th, 2009 7:32 pm

Once again Union fans are so clueless to reality. Watch the tape of your boy NELSON. He couldn’t keep up with our speed and our top-flite athletes. What all of the sudden from his junior to senior year he will be ready for the top of college football…wrong. Have fun beating on the sub-par teams in your league and surrounding area believing Nelson is so great, but once he leaves his bubble the cream rise to the top and he sinks.

  69. bob on April 21st, 2009 5:40 am

I came to this school on a boundary exception because I thought they where the real deal. Instead all I see is pampering of the star athletes and a sense of we are better then everyone else. We have one lucky year and think we are gods gift to football. I hope everyones ego’s can take all the bashing once we come to earth and are 5-5.

College scout, also know as… Taft High, aka… HAIL MARY, aka…Bellevue Big Daddy, aka… Union 11th grader… It doesn’t matter what user name you sign up under. We all know that its the same person. And we also know that you go to Heritage High school and you are a very poor Football player. And Grayson would be smart to keep his distance from you. Can you say restraining order?

Union is a good footall TEAM. With the exception of Saylor there are really no better athletes then anywhere else in the league, every player just goes balls out every play and that’s when you become very successful and playing in the tacoma dome is beyond exceptional. Union has great coaching and as for nelson, he is a fine athlete i’m sure but pretty much every defensive play was a gang tackle with three or four other union players in on it, and if you put other starting qaurterbacks around the league in wellers place i’m sure they would be just as good or even better.

Good try pro scout. Dont know the other people, but do know that we will be seeing Union at Summer Football Camp. Look out.

    I have a confession to make…
Union tried to recruit me, they have scouts everywhere!

  75. ridiculous on April 24th, 2009 7:30 am

This web site has lost all of its credibility. It’s a joke. I like how it’s just a bunch of Union and Camas people talking a bunch of crap to each other. Way to ruin an entire website. You should be really proud of yourselves! Why doesn’t everyone just shut up and play next year and whatever happens, happens. Again, this is high school football, not college, not semi pro, not the NFL, it’s high school for god’s sake. Grow up.

union 11th grader . i think i know who you are . and since you TRANSFERED from another school . you know nothing about MY TEAMATES . youre an ex twolve . you can thank ashton and Garret for lettin yoou and your sideline buddies mention anything about leauge champs . ” you ” should just take your sorry self back to your school .

If you think all these players from union are so good, look at what bellvue did to them, those players are ACTUAL D-1 recruits. So if the union players cant keep up with them, then obviously they are not similar recruits. They will get burned in college just like they got burned in Tacoma.

  79. Coach F on May 5th, 2009 6:40 pm

If you are a current/former/or IF YOU PLAN TO BE a Heritage Football player in the future, please DO NOT leave negative comments about opponents on this website or any other website.

What Union was able to accomplish this past season was bring more interest, excitement, and legitimacy to football in SW Washington, and this process really took off when Evergreen won the state championship. Union’s success strengthens rivalries in the area, which should only increase competition and make everyone else strive to get better.

Heritage players: we won a SHARE of the 4A league championship last year. Focus on US and OUR path to another successful season. Spring Ball is three and a half weeks away! Let your hard work in the weight room, classroom, and field do the talking. Don’t let stupid comments spoil all you’ve done. Go TWOLVES!

  82. wow on June 8th, 2009 5:34 pm

Spring ball is starting up. I went to union’s practice today. They look like they haven’t missed a beat. Should be another union dominated year?

  83. John on July 27th, 2009 4:05 pm

Camas Fan don’t you have anything better to do with your time then sit here and make yourself look like a biased idiot? Un

  84. John on July 27th, 2009 4:06 pm

Union beat Camas and it would have been a lot bigger margin if not for a lucky tipped pass and some sketchy officiating

Got something to say?
