Union Wins 3A GSHL Title After 26-21 Win Over Camas
October 31, 2008
The Union Titans completed an undefeated regular season and win the 3A GSHL title following their 26-21 home win over the Camas Papermakers Friday night at McKenzie Stadium.
Union took a 20-7 halftime lead after touch downs from Zak Browning and Mitch Saylor along with two Jed Barnett field goals. Camas had tied the score at 7-7 in the first when Guy Varsek caught pass from Logan Grindy after it was almost intercepted by a Union defender.
Camas made it close at the end, but did not have enough to claim the title, which would have been theirs with a win.
Union improves to 9-0 and 5-0 in league with the win, and will host Rainier Beach (4-5) this weekend in the Preliminary Round of the WIAA state play-offs.
Camas, who would have claimed the #1 seed with a win, falls to 6-3 and 3-2 in league with the loss and gets the #3 seed and will travel to Kennedy (8-1) this weekend in the Preliminary Round of the WIAA state play-offs.
