Vancouver Lineman Improves Daily
Clark County is right along the Washington and Oregon border along the banks of the mighty Columbia. Far from Seattle, which can be the main focus of Washington recruiting scene, athletes in this region are often overlooked.
Because College recruiters are assigned by State it seems the case that this region is often skipped over as the focus is on the bog cities.
That however is a mistake as the Vancouver, Washington area is home to about 500,000 people. Local High Schools produce some great talent every year and this year there is another great looking group.
One of them is Heritage High Schools Nolan LaValley. The interior linemen has excellent size and athleticism and has made some great strides this Spring and Summer.
“I hit a lot of camps and clinics and so I have been getting a lot of reps in the off season. Ultimately this is the best way I can improve,” said LaValley.
Nolan is 6’3″ and 260 pounds. He is making the transition to Center this season for the Timber-wolves and looks forward to it.
“Coach and I talked and this is a position that I am projecting to in College. This will be a good time for me to develop.”
He attended the Oregon and Oregon State Nike NFTC Camps and looked good in the drills and the one on ones.
He has above average technique and is a good pass blocker. One thing he wants to improve on is his Pad Level.
“I play a lot both ways and you know as the games go on it can be pretty easy to play a little too high. So I learned in the off season to put a lot of emphasis on pad level.”
That is something he learned while blocking guys like Taniela Tupou at these camps.
“That guy is amazing. Boy he plays low off the ball and so to beat a guy like that you have to stay down,” said Nolan.
He is still looking for his first offer but is hearing from some schools.
Portland State and Eastern Washington have both been in touch recently. He fits well at that Big Sky level and with his frame can definitely put on some size in a college weight room.
Heritage always plays a tough schedule so it will be fun to see what they can accomplish this year. LaValley figures to be a leader on and off the field.
